I must give top marks to Toyota, though. Despite two hours of concentrated downpour, the interior of my Mk3 MR2 was bone dry.

Ah, so you might be a bit higher up, we're more on a level with the canal. Actually, this was just down to a blocked drain - it had all gone within an hour of the rain stopping. A couple of people got their front gardens flooded, but nothing serious.

What did get me was watching the numpties in their cars just driving into the water as if it was a dry road, and then acting all surprised when a bow wave threatened to come over their bonnet. Of half-a-dozen cars I watched go past my house, exactly one slowed down to a crawl to enter the water.

Actually, wahat really got my blood boiling was some fg woman who came along in her MPV to pick up some kids from a house down the way. She proceeded to drive away with a young (7-ish) boy unrestrained - standing up, in fact - in the front passenger seat. Sorry, but whenever I see a moving car with unrestrained kids in it, I am overwhelmed by the desire to do violence to the driver. I don't care if they are only doing 10mph.

Missed this one!
I came back from work through knutsford that week, went back roads through Ashley to Hale, was really hot and clear until Ashley so stopped to put the roof on. Then it absolutely mashed it down for about 10 seconds, then stopped. Very odd. Went up round park road, which is quite high up, wondering why the cars were driving down the middle of the road, then found out! Probably about half a foot of standing water! Great fun driving through the middle of it (slowly I may add!) Good job i have a nice reliable rover engine...unlike the old man, who drove his year old A3 tdi under a bridge in lymm ..and had to get towed out by recovery, his car is now full of water!

Strange weather!
