I've got to get to Sheffield for 09.45 on a weekday.

I'm just about on the A57 in Denton and the place I want is on the A57 too so I thought of going on the A57

What time would I have to leave and is the M67 to be avoided at this time?

Which part of the A57 are you heading for?

It squirts out of the other side of Sheffield, too...

The black bit with white adornment.

Especially near the Forte Crest Hotel.

Hope you mean NEAR the Forte Crest, and not AT the Forte Crest...

It closed down a while ago...

You'll have no trouble at the Sheffield end at 9.45, as you're still on the outskirts.

I would imagine the M67 will be carrying heavy traffic the other way. I've done it at that time and don't remember any congestion.

You'll probably meet a queue from the end of the M67 down to the right turn in Glossop, but the traffic lights seem to sort it well and traffic usually keeps moving slowly.

TIP...at the end of the M67, you need the left lane for the first exit from the roundabout. If there's a queue, get in the right lane, do a circuit of the roundabout and slide into the nearside lane as you go round.....

Pssst....DON'T TELL ANYONE, IF THEY ALL DO IT, IT WON'T WORK

Only problem with the Snake is lorries. If you get stuck in a line behind a lorry, and the car behind the lorry won't overtake, you can be stuck there at 20-30mph for much of the pass. Might be wrong, but I'm sure they've put down more white lines recently.

Talivans lurk near the long straights beside the reservoirs, and in the twisty bits through the trees just before that.

An hour's brisk driving will do it, but it might be an idea to allow two hours in case the peasants hold you up.

If you need any information about your destination, give me a shout...I live within spitting distance.

And watch out for the bloody sheep....

Anyone know if going over Werneth Low is a bad idea these days. I've heard there are going to be roadworks @ some point but don't know when they start. So the cunning plan might include going over the Low then through Charlesworth to the roundabout @ Gamesley.

Any doomsayers to shoot this one down in flames?

And the answer is.........Denton to the foot of the Snake takes 50 minutes at this time.

And I had a smashing little hoon with the road nearly Jugger free

Really is a great road if you can do it without seeing another vehicle...

Managed it a few times....
