Stockport Campaign Against Road Hump Madness

I have had enough! I am thinking of challenging the silliness. IE the Liberal democrat stupidity that wants everyone to climb on buses and get nits. The raod humps are of epidemic proportions in this Town (Which incidentally is Prescotts model town of the future) :furious:

Anyone interested? Gonna do it anyway cos I have had enough but supporters of all kinds welcome.

There were plans to litter the roads around me with road humps. There was that much rejection, that 2 years on nothing has been done about it.

Do you have a logical argument eg. common route for emergency vehicles??

In my home town (penrith Cumbria) the local bus companys refused to drive down roads with speed humps because of the damage they were doing to thier buses.
In the end the council had to give in and remove the speed humps from bus routes.
I am up there on friday I will check but I think the police fire ambulance services have asked for the rest to be removed as well.

In Stafford the boy racers, drive half on the pavement half on the road to avoid the speed bumps, which are much bigger than the kerbs.
Scary having some young idiot drive along the pavement at you when your wobbling home at 2 in the morning.
Having said that I am after a cerby after christmas, and instead of Stafford being one mile from my house it will be a 4 mile journey to go a route without bumps too high for a cerby.

Do you reccon you could charge your council for the extra fuel and wear and tare?
After all roads are supposed to be designed for ALL vehicles.

There are a couple of very low scoobys in my area that make a horrible scraping noise every time they go over the bumps, hopefully they will have worn them down by then, if not it's a cracking twisty 4mile drive to come in to stafford from the other end

I have nine speed cushions before I get to my home. On challenging the council on the emergency services tack I was informed that the cushions had been designed to allow emergency vehicle wheels to pass either side of the cushion. Now I don't thing that my Tuscan is much narrower than a BiB car nor is my Jaguar XK8 and I can't pass over the cushion without at least 1 side of the vehicle rising and I'm sure it's not doing my cars any good. Any suggestions to attack the council would be appreciated.

Clive send them a bill for new suspension..................
They can only say no....

Which is what they probably will do. or better still not even bother replying.

Be interesting to see though.

No they just pay up if you send a solicitors letter cos as soon as one of these goes to court then they are stuffed.

As for arguments against silly bumps

1 More than 900 people die every year because emergency services cannot get to them because of silly bumps. (London Ambulance service figures)

2 Pollution levels in areas where silly bumps exist can be as much as seven times that found in areas of sanity.

3 The foundations of houses can be damaged by the constant pounding vehicles give the ground when mounting silly bumps

4 No lives have as yet been saved as a result of silly bumps, in fact if you take point 1 into account they kill.

5 The two most carcinogenic substances known to the planet are produced by large diesel engines under load. the type found in busses and lorries. The ammount of carcinogens entering the air and the water supply is very likely to rise in areas where silly bumps prevail.

6 In environmental terms the additional use of oil resources to lay tarmac and the additional use of fuel make no sense at all.

Write to your council then and include all those points but don't say "silly bumps" cos they'll just laugh at you.

They have had more than 50 letters. I have said all sorts of stuff. I have met several of the council and the MP. 2 Weeks ago I had a bloody big argument with 3 of them which my mum witnessed. She said it was not fair cos there was only 3 of them. What makes you think its wrong to question the sanity of the people who support a policy which kills people and destroys homes and vehicles, pollutes the environment, causes chronic disease and noise?
