Cornerhouse, end is nigh?

The classic car and bike meet at the Cornerhouse in Wrightington looks like it may well end.

West Lancs Council have had a planning application to knock down the pub and build nine house on the site including the carpark.
Nine houses !!! On that size of site means Barrett boxes R Us.

Still, the council get nine more Council tax income to squander on some stupid ill conceived plan of some description.

Ive never actually been to the Meet they have there, but been to the pub many times. It would be a real shame to knock it down and lose part of the local history in the area.

The car-meet there tomorrow is going to be unsupported...no drink or food service, no toilets, na-da.

The pub says they have been too busy to put on any facilities for the 200-300 people who may turn up.

I'm sure there are plenty of alternative venues which would be pleased to host a car gathering...

I saw a while back (must've been around 2018/19) that the Corner House was up for sale for just under a million lol. Where do people get that kind of money from?. I doubt my local pub is worth that.

Shame that's happened, was a great place for the meet, and the houses (or likely flats) that will be built on the site will be pokey things, yet will likely cost well over 200k given the area it's in.

The New Years day meet is go !!

Planning app, 56 local objections plus United Utilities objection re inadequate drainage and the Parish Council objects too...and 65% of site is classified greenbelt..

You can bet your last dollar it gets approved though !!!

Packed this morning , cars hanging out the car park, all through ways filled, cars out in the streets for 300 yards off the venue..
