Can someone tell me about Congleton please? Thinking about a house here.

Is it ok? Is it nice? Areas to avoid?

We’re somewhat easily ahem.. middle class, two young kids. No interest in boozing and night clubs.

What’s the commute to Manchester City centre like?

Congleton's not bad, doesn't have the cheshire set & prices of further north but is just far enough away from Stoke hehe Handy for the peak district etc.

For a commute depends which bit of Manchester but it's a lot better since the Alderley Edge bypass was finished a few years back. Also IIRC you don't need to change trains from there. I'm Alsager and I have to go east or west first then change to get to MCR which is a pain.

Hope I'm not imagining this but I think they're building a bypass around Congleton at the moment.

Crewe is getting HS2'd some time in the next 10 years, at which point it'll be 25 mins from Manchester and an hour from London, and house prices will no doubut climb to reflect that, if you don't mind a crap commute while you wait.
