Just heard that Woodvale Rally in Southport for this year is cancelled, and according the source they are no longer holding the event in Victoria Park, apparently due to a fair ground ride incident.

What ashame as I thought this was a great local annual rally in a convenient location.

Didn't Woodvale finish a few years ago, or did it start again and I missed it?

It was never the same since they moved it from Woodvale. I still believe there was more behind it than the asbestos in the buildings.

Yeah I suppose it's not quite Woodvale Rally if it's not at Woodvale. It was probably just an excuse to get prying eyes away from the place; you never know what goes on at these military bases that the general masses arn't privy to.

Sod all happens at woodvale it's not area 51....

It got cancelled due to the asbestos. Plus the police helicopter is now based there and on more than one occasion people tried to break into the rifle range and even tried to steal the avgasv

Not the same since the southport airshow came in either

Is the asbestos story right. I heard the same, then someone said it was just a story and it was the new boss that didn't want the event.

i grew up in ainsdale, next to woodvale and went numerous times over the years. It used to be really great in the 80s and 90s. Real shame that it couldn't be kept on. I hear the overnight campers were sometimes a bit raucous, burnouts on the runway and so on. Not sure if that contributed to it being forced to move.

Asbestos was a cover story.
The RAF couldn't be arsed with the rally any more ( and the demands that were being made by the organizers ).

The Police helicopter has not been based at Woodvale since 2011.

Oh, and there is no rifle range at Woodvale.
