I was hoping some of you local guys could help me ?

I am coming up to Warrington in the next few weeks to pick a car up on a trailer, I was hoping to pop in and see my old Mum at Chesterfield on the way back down South.

A quick look on the map does show a route almost straight across mainly A roads but will I struggle with a big van and a trailer with car on ?

I don't really know the area and just wondered how many big hills I will get, I realize it is called the Peak District for a reason.

Buxton to Macclesfield Via the Cat and Fiddle (A537) will be fine, used by HGVs
(Unless it snows)

Excellent thank you,

I was more worried about the size of the Hills I would have to tackle.

There won't be any problem (unless it snows) there are no roads like the Kirkstone and Wrynose passes in The Lake District in the area.

You obviously know you can pick up the M1 (s) at Chesterfield.

I would leave Warrington via the M62, heading towards Manchester, and then onto the M60 following signs for Manchester Airport initially, and the follow signs for Stockport, Denton M67 etc. Take the M67 to the end, and continue straight ahead at the roundabout which takes you through Tintwistle. The traffic is always a bit slow there, but soon clears. Just keep on that road (A628) and it will take you over the Woodhead Pass (again, as in a previous post, avoid if we have snow) to Sheffield, and onto the M1 travelling south past the centre of Sheffield. There are one or two sections on the Woodhead Pass that are interesting, but plenty of HGV's use it as they do on the Cat and Fiddle Road. The advantage taking this route is that you will be on motorways from Warrington to Tintwistle, unlike heading toward the Cat and Fiddle!
