Bridgewater Hall Saturday night - warzone or OK?
Discussion
Hi
Am about to book tickets for a gig at Bridgewater Hall with the kids
If I book parking at the time I get a cheap rate at First Street Q Park which looks to be 10-12mins walk whereas parking at the NCP bang across the road is several times more expensive.
Im a bit rusty on this bit of town but always had a high level of respect when I was a yoof
Has it been gentrified so much that 1030PM on a Saturday night would be sensible, or not?
Cheers

I wouldn't be able to tell you what it is like now! Even though I only live eight miles from the centre of Manchester, it is somewhere I avoid like the plague!! The last time I went was around two years ago, to the Opera House, and likewise it was discounted parking around the corner, at £7, normally £12. What is all that about?? There were so many places to park at night, but now there are double yellow lines everywhere, complimented by an army of uniformed halfwits doling out tickets!!! If I owned a business in Manchester, I would be absolutely up in arms at the way the council are frightening people away!!! It is pure greed, to grab more money for them to waste, but they won't have a penny of my money! Am about to book tickets for a gig at Bridgewater Hall with the kids

Just out of interest, what are the parking costs that you have been quoted??
Bridgewater Hall and surrounding is far more salubrious than in the past. I've been a number of times recently, concerts at night, post-graduate awards during the day. In fact I'm at a Joanne Shaw Taylor gig there in a few weeks. I always pre-book and park in the NCP across the road. I'm pretty sure a 10.30 pm walk in the area will be as safe as anywhere in town.
The NCP over the road was a complete rip off and also completely unsecured with a number of ne'er do wells hanging around
Theres a Q Park a little walk away which I wished we had used
They're usually clean, much better value and have secure access
It was fine around there, a far cry from when I used to go to the Hacienda
Town is not what it used to be.
Yes, the NCP across the road from Bridgewater is pretty much all underground, you also get quite a bit of foot traffic from oxford road, student area, deansgate locks, and the tram.
The walk back to the Q-park would not have been enjoyable at that time of night either.
You made the right choice with the NCP.
