Stuck on NW areas to re-locate. Commute on foot.
Discussion
Hi all, Myself and OH work in Manchester (Oxford Rd) and are looking to cut down our commute whilst trying to find an area similar to where we live currently.
Up in Greenfield currently. We both really like the semi-rural type of area, and the fact that there's some good amenities nearby (supermarket, independent shops, pubs etc) looking to start a family so family friendly is a high point too.
Problem with the commute is it's only one train an hour, and then we tend to walk from Victoria to Picadilly Gardens for a bus to Oxford Rd. When it works out, it's almost manageable, but far too often it is becoming harder to compromise the location over the stress of the commute.
Neither of us drive, so we are really struggling to find somewhere that ticks all boxes. We have a low budget of 130K which also puts a strain on things!
Only place that we have come across is Tottington, just outside of Bury. But this would mean a 15/20 bus journey from Tottington into Bury interchange, to then get onto the tram. And then a bus once in Manchester.
Any other ideas would be really appreciated.

Not sure if you've ever heard of it but check out Buckshaw Village as it could tick all of your boxes:
1. Lots of new-build and affordable housing (from apartments to shared ownership to nice 4/5 bed properties)
2. Primary school in the village
3. Dentists/Doctors Surgery
4. A huge Tesco literally down the road
5. Three pubs all within walking distance
6. Restaurants and take-aways in the local area
7. M61/M6 is literally a 5 minute drive away
8. Has it's own train station (Buckshaw Parkway) with a direct regular trains to Manchester Oxford Road. The station is easily walkable from most of the houses.
I live in Preston which is the next stop on the train (further from Manchester) and the trains are good - it takes around 35-40 mins to commute both morning and night. My mate lives on Buckshaw with his family and he loves it. You'd pay around £200 a month for a season ticket)

Anywhere on the Buxton to Manchester line will give you a frequent and reliable service to Oxford Road. Lots of lovely countryside to enjoy. Property prices to suit most budgets. Under one hour from Buxton, 40 minutes from New Mills, 25 minutes from Woodsmoor as examples.
Good call. New Mills is decent value - you'd easily get a decent 2/3 bed stone terrace in budget, and it feels a million miles away from the centre of manchester. We're on the next line up - 40 mins to Oxford Rd from Marple I think. Warrington line through Urmston would be worth a look as well.andy43 said:

It's 'good value' for a reason.....A bit further south than Buckshaw Village is Adlington. Good train service into Manchester Oxford Road taking around 30mins now the Farnworth Tunnel at Bolton is fixed. A monthly ticket costs around £130 or if you want to be cheeky get it form Blackrod (next stop on the line) and you'll never be checked, saving £30 a month. On the doorstep of Rivington, local amenities, Middlebrook shopping complex a short bus ride / two train stops away.
£130000 will get you a good choice of 2/3 bedroomed new(ish) builds or olde worlde, but modernised terraced.
