One of my headlights has started to peel in the intense north west sun... The UV coating is flaking of it looks a right mess.

Ive read online that the fix is to sand down the entire light to 2000 grit to remove the original UV resistant clear coat and respray with the same kind of special UV resistant stuff.

I imagine if I go to the usual body shop and ask them to paint my headlight they might look at me like I'm crackers.

New headlight is £800 and back ordered so don't fancy that.

Anybody know of a bodyshop that could take on this kind of work? Ideally somebody whos done it before and isn't experimenting on my car!

I've done one of mine on the TT, though it had gone with age rather than the intense sunlight we've had recently. I think I started with 1000, then 1500, 2000, maybe 2500, then Autosol chrome cleaner, then G3 compound, then polish. I started the other one but did a quicker job which hasn't come out so well. There was a post on the TT forum where someone had put a new coating on it (which I think was a film, rather than lacquer) but I can't get my head around how he got it to fit the curved lights and you might have the same problem. So far I haven't re-coated mine with anything, just stick some wax on them.
