Looking like I'll be around Burnley for a week or two with work.

No idea yet where I'll be staying as I was only asked about going there at the end of work today.

Looking for suggestions for roads around there for a drive in the evening.

Thanks in advance.

Many thanks. I'll have a look at those on Google maps in the morning and put them in my satnav.

OK.

Recommend the first one, if you have time and sufficient daylight. Take a camera. Go from Hawes to Buckden via Gayle.

First one was great. Would have taken photos if I'd had more time, but the road from Horton-in-Ribblesdale via Ribblehead to Hawes is now one of my favourite roads. Gayle Lane from Hawes to Buckden is really good too. It was then starting to get to twilight.

I used to work in Burnley and live Almost in Settle, at Long Preston.

Just take it easy. Roads are great, but I've seen some of the aftermath of enthusiasm.

And if you go as FAR as Hawes, go the last bit over butter tubs into keld and then out to tan hill inn for tea http://goo.gl/maps/uqzMa

Glad you enjoyed it....smile

The Yorkshire Dales are a truly beautiful part of the country.

Two photographs I took at Ribblehead viaduct.

It's a beauty, one of my favourite drives too smile
We often visit friends up in County Durham, and go that way, then up over buttertubs, and finally over the stang from Arkengarthdale. It's a great mix of fast, open, flowing stuff, down to fiddly little technical tight twisties, and everything in between. The Dales are great.
