Hi All,

I'm trying to find someone who can weld together a new aluminium fuel tank, about 5 litres in size, local to either Liverpool or Crewe. It is for a race car I am involved in building - previously, the team has always had it done professionally but at costs of up to £400 eek

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,
Matt

I can vouch for Pro Alloy they may seem expensive at first but time you cost it against others it's not that much extra and they do a lovely job.

Try the migwelding forum - and just put a request out. There are a lot of experienced welders on there who will undoubtably be able to help you out for some cash in hand.

Some posters are gonna love that!

At £400 I'd rather buy the equipment and a whole load of Ali to practice on!

We aren't allowed to weld by ourselves, and the in house engineering department only have the capability to weld steel.

I shall try this welding forum though!

I think you would struggle to buy a decent mig & spoolgun or preferably TIG welder for that price.

I would get it done professionally, or as above someone with some practise for beer money. you could buy a MIG for some bits perhaps as they are relatively cheap and a bit easier to learn. smile

Do you have a drawing? what sort of fittings are attached to it?

It is a cube about the size of a motorcycle helmet, made in 2 halves from a pair of precision-cut and folded sheets of aluminium - they interlock a bit like like the pattern on a tennis ball, if you get me. Thus, there is one long continuous seam to weld around the outside of the tank, then a small seam to attach the filler neck
to a hole pre-cut in the top.

I can get and send you the drawings if you think you could be able to help us out smile
