Today as i was driving on Didsbusy Road I was astonished to see and heard a FORD GT40 pass me on Didsbury Road (opposite direction to me heading away from Stockport) in its glorious Gulf colours and various sponsors.

Could it be, did I see a real Ford GT40 or was it a good replica? I am convinced it was the real deal but how? If it was but a replica, bravo to its manufacture.

Has anyone else seen this GT40? Does anyone know if is a replica or true FORD GT40?

Havent seen that one, saw a green and yellow GT40 in York last year. It looked absolutely perfect and sounded brilliant. The fact that it was a replica was only given away by the 2000 V registration plates!!

ah!! but you see the one i saw had a black plate and it was only about 4-5 characters and was defiantly not a modern plate type. i was too astonished looking at the car and driver to take note of the plate.

Sounds like a genuine to me, is there some sort of GT40 register online anywhere. Think google may be required there!

Probably a replica mate. Were there any 'real' GT40s in gulf colours?

i do remember the driver had a parka coat and seemed rather young, late 20s maybe mid 30s.

Sorry, meant GT40 road cars. Though I don't suppose there was much difference between road and race

That was taken at Silverstone. It is a very good and immaculate replica. The owner races it and also uses it for promotion work for Gulf oil, was there a new Gulf petrol station being opened nearby? Judging by the description of the driver I doubt it was that one. Here's another one.

There may be some more in the gallery section of my web site at www.tkracing.co.uk

They are both replicas. The red one was built by a father and his son, sadly the son passed away and the dad races it in his memory.
The Gulf one was built and owned by Graham Turner, he is also building a replica Porsche 917 which should be on the race track in 2005.

They look like the very same GT40 reps that I've seen running at Brighton Speed Trials - absolutely awesome
The sound they make and the detailing that's gone into the interiors and running gear WANT ONE
