After my purchase ( Lotus Elise 111R ) a couple of months ago, at some point I'd now would like to actually to drive the thing properly on a track :-)
So I'm based on the Wirral, so I was thinking Oulton / Anglesey, certainly I'm not driving to Kent to take it for a blast ( I'm keen but not keen to sit on a motorway for hours ! )
Ideally I'd like some instruction to get me started, I'm not bothered about the cost, better to get it done correctly on my 1st mission, so happy to pay for the privilege.

Any inspiration, ideas and experiences more than welcome, as ever.....

I did a few track days at oulton park with www.focusedevents.co.uk when i had my westfield. It is a fantastic circuit and the organization was great and they have instructors who will go out with you or take you out in theirs or whatever you want for a few extra £s.
Open pit lane days are the best as you can do as many or as little laps as you want when you want.
Prices were usually between £100-£200 depending on the time of year and the day, weekends obviously being more expensive.

If you haven't done trackdays before get yourself booked on. You will enjoy it so much you wont believe it!!

Both great tracks. Angelsea is probably the more beginner friendly than Oulton. BookATrack do days at both. I'd also consider crossing the Pennines to Blyton which is a great starter track with not a lot to hit. Apex regularly run days there.

Every track day I've been on has instructors available, usually something like £20 for 20mins (Apex usually do free tuition).

I've done a couple of Elise days at Anglesey and its a great circuit, some slow technical stuff at the top and a decent ballsy section at the other end. Oulton is still my fave track in the UK but it needs respect if its anything but bone dry smile As do most tracks, but this more so IMO.

Open pit lane at Oulton with instruction. Job, jobbed smile

When you've got one of the best circuits in the country on your door step, why go elsewhere?

I've just booked Oulton 8.11.13 open pitlane, free instruction. Trackaction-online, £130 car and driver. Extra driver is + £35.

I've never driven the circuit. Looking forward to it, but a bit nervous!

Blyton is a great 'starter' circuit. Had a day there in April with TIPEC.

Oulton is great, but check what else is happening that weekend: I won't book if I think there's a risk of lots of people using it as an unofficial test day.

Can you get your money back if it rains weeping
By the way thanks for all the advice, I guess if I go easy Oulton could be a good option, I have no misunderstanding about my abilities wink

Not usually.

BTW, MSV have novice sessions on some days at Oulton: you'll be on track with people who have done three or fewer track days, so you're not right in at the deep end.

As others have said, it's a lovely circuit to drive, challenging, and with very little run off in some areas. Instruction is really essential to get the most out of it for you.

Anglesey is a great circuit too. If you get the opportunity pop along to a track day at either (or both) and have a look at what's going on. Frequently you can actually sign on "on the day", which is what I did at my first track day (coincidentally at Angelsey). Conversely I've driven to track days before, seen the general standard of driving, number of red flags in the first half hour and thought "nahhhhhhhhhhhh" and driven home.

Some companies, I think, offer terms if your day gets rained off (Bookatrack I think, but check directly with Jonny there).

Best wishes with it, and remember to have fun!

I think Norlog are doing a day at anglesey, so if you fancy doing a day surrounded by lotii, it might be worth a look?
