Just a quick one for anyone who is interested in such things.

There's a proposal to reduce the speed limit on several miles of the A50 (Cranage to Allostock) from NSL to 50mph: http://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/your_coun...

I'm keen to find out more about the logic behind this as it's a section of road that I use regularly but, a couple of very localised hazards aside, struggle to see it as being of significantly lower quality than any other larger rural A road, especially after all of the changes made to lines etc over the past few years. Hell, the lanes I use to get there seem FAR more dangerous, yet remain NSL.

The Council's website is VERY vague ([cynic]aside from the fact that adding hurdles helps reduce the number of objections they might get [/cynic], not sure why they don't publish the full case and map online)

Just wondered if anyone on here had any insight? The TRO is open for objections until the 24th.

That's a bummer, good overtaking stretch that.

eta, to get around all the annoying people that you've been stuck at behind doing 40 all the way up to Holmes Chap!

Exactly. Will be virtually impossible to make a legal overtake there if it all goes through.

I might drop down to have a look at the proposal in more detail in order to see what the logic is behind it.

Have heard rumour that they're wanting to get it 50mph all the way up to Knutsford, which would be both frustrating and difficult to enforce.

I could guess it's the businesses along that road, and there's a few junctions along it too, mixed with the overtaking that's not great.

Though on the other hand it's very wide and has great visibility.

Actually, they can make it 50 if they want, as long as they make that sweepy dippy rollercoaster bit further up the country's first 80 limit hehe

That bit was so much better before they put the hatched area in a few years ago! frown

I think there's been a few nasty ones at the garden centre entrances no? And the crossing with New Platt ln I would imagine.. its not going to stop the accidents IMHO but I can see their reasoning sadly.

Am i correct in thinking this is the road that goes from the daft roundabouts in Holmes Chaple to Knutsford ?

I guess if they wnet that route (no pun intended) they'd opt for average speed camera.

Some of that road is 50 already at the HC end if i remember correctly.

Not really any need to slow it down. I suppose its because quite a few roads enter it. The problem is drivers pulling out into gaps that are not big enough. In fact i was on my bike down it last Sat and a car pulled out on me.

Maybe a set of lights that work only at busy times would help rather than speed limit changes.

They want to focus more on sorting the roads out around the area rather than faffing with speed limits. That road actually has a couple of bad spots on it. Fine in car but not when your on 2 wheels.
