I have no choice but to be in Southport on Saturday, Can anyone advise on a pub within a 5 mile radius of the front, inland of course, that might show the Rugby on Saturday??? A bit of decent fodder wouldn't go a miss but a nice pint and the rugby is more important.

Cheers

Your best bet is LLoyds bar or the Phoenix but being Saturday, you may have to deal with some of the "interesting" locals...

The good news is that you will be spoilt for choice for all three, unfortunately you will struggle to get them all at in one venue.

Beer = Guest House on Union Street
Decent food = Warehouse/Vincent/Bistro Verite, Italian Volare or Indian Sahill
Sport = 50% of the bars in Southport will be showing the rugby

If I was to look for a couple of cask ales, a range of value food (2 for £10 etc) and half a dozen screens for the match I would probably plumb for The Bold in Churchtown (a couple of quid in a cab from town) and pop over the road to The Hesketh for a few of pints of Wainwrights before and after the match.

These are only my suggestions but if you enjoy your ale you MUST at least sample the Guest House wink

Hope you find what you are looking for and have an enjoyable time.

The Sandgrounder on Lord Street is quite generous on the food front, and I can't imagine it not showing the rugby! Failing that, The Imperial on Albert Road does good beers, has plenty of parking and shows a lot of sport...
