How long does it take to drive from central Liverpool to central Manchester during peak periods?

If I need to be in Manchester by 9am what time would I have to leave Liverpool?

Is it easier just to use the train? A quick look suggests a fare would be around £23.

From Southport to salford to pick a friend up during peak hours it took me 1 and a half hours to get there when it takes 45 mins when its quiet.

Get the train, peak periods suck and the a580 and m62 both get clogged up. If you really have to drive, do the park and ride and use the trams to get from the outskirts to the center rather than find somewhere to park.

If you know when you are going you can get the train tickets cheaper if you book 3 or 4 days in advance. Can be as little as £8 return from Lime St to Manchester Picadilly taking 40 minutes.
If you turn up on the day and need to get to Manchester Victoria instead you can split the ticket Lime St to Newton Le Willows return and Newton Le Willows to Manchester Victoria return, this would save you a couple of £ than just getting a Lime St to Manchester Victoria ticket.
In total the above would be £13.80

The roadworks on the M62 near Warrington has finished now so I expect the journey time in peak periods would now take at least an hour.

Going into Manchester in the morning rush hours can be a pain especially along the M602/Regent Road.

I'd have thought you're looking at 90mins. The M62 and M56 are both like car parks at that time. If it's something you're considering do a couple of test runs, but do it quickly as if you do it during school holidays you'll be lulled into a false sense of security.

When I first started work in Manchester I comuted from Crosby and absolutely hated it - 3hrs in the car every day in heavy traffic gets boring very quickly. I lasted 9 months then moved to Didsbury.

From experience I'd say you need to be at the Liverpool end of the M62 by 7:15am in order to comfortably get there, park up, and make my way to a city centre office.

After 7:30am it gets a lot heavier and I always preferred to risk arriving 30 mins early than potentially 30 mins late.
