Hotels near Wythenshawe hospital
Discussion
My sister is going into Wythenshawe hospital for some pre-transplant tests later this month. My 17 year old neice is going with her and I want to find her a decent hotel (if there is one) close to the hospital or at least s simple bus trip away if not.
Anybody who lives in or has experience of the area got any recommendations? Google seems to be throwing up B&Bs and airport hotels.

Not sure how far you want to travel but when I work in manchester I like to use the Village hotels.
There is one in cheadle which I think is fairly close to Whythenshaw. Not used that one myself but never had a problem with village hotels. beds and pillows are the best plus they are pitch black at night. never had trouble sleeping in one.

If you scrole down on that link the pink patch on the map at 9 oclock is the hospital I think.

Hope everything goes well for your relative - as an aside I used to be a nurse at Wythenshawe in the late 80's when the transplant team was just being set up, and remember the excitement in the whole hospital when news came through about a successful swap - now it's routine!
have you tried the Country House in Didsbury? Not the airport hotel, but just a few minutes further into Didsbury village.

Best wishes to your sister.
Both the recommendations that have been made are as sound as a pound in my humble opinion - I used to use the gym at the Village, Cheadle, (and we used the hotel for accommodation following stuff like Xmas dinners at work) and the principal of 1st Tickets who posts on Pistonheads has stayed at the Didsbury Hotel (we hooked up with him for a beer there - bit frenetic as there was either a school prom or someones 16th birthday party going off in one of the function rooms).
If both of those are booked up try the Galleon Hotel in Didsbury (oddly about half way between the 2 already recommended) - handy for getting around, and they've a gym and a reasonable pool. Not sure how it lies with buses to wythie, but I'm certain if you phone them they'll tell you.

There is a nice b&b on altrincham road, just past the tesco, cant remember the name, but sarah ferguson stayed there a couple of years ago when she visited wythenshawe.
cant think of the name,
but there is also a travel lodge in a nice area called hale barns, its hard to explain but the maternity side of the hospital is on a lane and is farly rural copared to the main entrance the hotel is about half a mile away down the lane, a really expensive lovely area with nice pubs, its abot two minutes away in a cab
ps there is also one in heald green, thats ok as well
but if i were you i would pick hale barns all day long
hope all go's well.
its superb hospital, really modern

Thanks guys. Her daughter doesn't drive ( well she has no car but passed her test last week) so it will need to be walking distance or on the bus route.
This is an extended stay to see if she is suitable for (lung) transplant as only one other person in the UK has ever had a transplant with her condition and that was only recently carried out. Seems lung transplants are tricky because you can't chill them as you would other organs so it requires a warm body to body move.

Just been told it has been postponed, sorry for the bother.
My office overlooks the hospital and I live 3-4 away in Bowdon which borders onto Hale & Hale Barns which one of the earlier posters mentionedwhen it comes back on, feel free to message me for more details of suitable hotels
Loads of options - depends on budget
The shame for you, without wanting to be too light hearted about a serious situation, is that you aren't coming - Wythenshawe has one of the largest council estates in Europe but Hale/Bowdon/Hale Barns are a PH car spotters dream - Ferraris, Bentleys, Rolls, Astons, R8s........you'd be luckier not to spot one than to see several on the 2 mile journey to the hospital !
