Best driving roads within 30 miles / 30 mins of Liverpool
Discussion
Evening, what are people's preferred choices within that criteria? I'm a bit hacked off of having to drive a fair way to find some decent roads, I'd just like somewhere to go to on a whim when I have some spare time rather than having to use up a whole day!
I've done lots of Cheshire but not for a while, any suggestions would be great, obviously there won't be anything evo triangle esq, I'm just after decent interesting roads that aren't too busy and low bib presence.
Nice scenery is always a bonus!

A lot depends on the car. My little Lomax loves being ragged around the tiny lanes of Cheshire that are so narrow nobody else uses them!
My mates 550 marenello likes the larger open A roads where it can stretch it's legs. I know a lot of nice little lanes, but they aren't exactly big, long, open or flowing.
I'll pm you if you want with a nice route of a couple of hours I enjoy doing in Cheshire.

Agreed.
Also, the lanes between Formby and Ormskirk, taking in places such as Scarisbrick and Haskayne.
Yep, there is some cracking back roads between southport and Ormskirk, I used to drive them to uni most days and had quite a bit of fun driving them. Best learn the routes in the dry as the roads are not in best condition and driven on by tractors a lot so can be a bit slippy! Also, the lanes between Formby and Ormskirk, taking in places such as Scarisbrick and Haskayne.

Just need it to stop raining!
Google map link?
Try the road from the Scotch Piper, Lydiate (A5147) towards Southport. The Scotch is a bikers pub. Very, very busy on Wednesdays in the summer.
It passes through Haskayne, Halsall, Scarisbrick, etc.
The best roads are off the beaten track around Halsall/ Ormskirk.
The road between Ormskirk and Formby is OK. Try Bells Lane on your way back. Near to Farmer Teds, cuts through to Lydiate.
ps. be careful it is a bit muddy/ slippy along Bells Lane. I was following a muppet in a BMW yesterday who had an "incident" with a hedge.

That was my route home when I had the petrol and wanted a bit of a hoon. Only about 30 mins but some lovely tight twisties and I haven't ever seen a BiB down them either as they are usually very quiet(other than a really loud metro now and again )

Aah, M Roadster
We share some car history. Definately a better choice than another S2000 (especially one of the last ones). Had a couple of those too. (I visited your garage, I'm not stalking you )
Big ditches either side of Bells Lane. Just for your info.
The "Hightown bends" aren't far away. Only a short stretch but very twisty.
Follow the Formby by-pass towards Crosby, turn right at the traffic lights at the Weld Blundell pub. Follow the signs towards Little Crosby.

About ? Car history, S2000 issues or roads ?
Garage of course, car history, I haven't used my Z4 M much yet how does it match up to the S2000 and what were your issues, mine were faultless.A few people on S2KI have gone the same way as me, my impressions are it's a much better car but a touch heavier, no contest in performance though.
I remember driving those roads in a MK2 scirocco GT years and years ago, funny how you forget. Google maps was my friend. I tend to head to Wales / Cheshire these days.
