Hello there,

I'd like to ask if anyone fancies playing rugby league for Newton Storm (Newton-le-Willows)? Unfortunately pack's getting thin due to a few injuries and retirements, need forwards and 2nd rowers. Good up and coming team, won 2 out of 3 games so far this season. Train twice a week and we have a good management team and coach! Just reply to this post and we'll take it from there,

Thanks chaps smile

Didn't know Newton had a team.
Sorry not for me to old & prefer ice hockey but good luck.

Yeah it is a fairly new team, 5 years old iirc. Still a bit of a time gap before the youngters start to feed through to the open age team unfortunately.

Hmm. I'm 35 and have a spacky back which is supposed to mean "no contact sports", but if I get any fatter I fear I'll have a furious heart attack before I'm 40.

I don't know the rules of rugby, other than you have to get the ball over the line and that the chances of a smack in the face are somewhat higher than football, which I used to play a lot.

I wonder, maybe, if I get a bit fitter in the gym first I'd be welcome to train with you? Unless your training consists of playing little games of rugby, in which case I'd be pretty useless hehe

Hi Mazdareze,

Of course you'd be welcome to turn up at training, no need to hit the gym first, training will get you fit! We tend to do fitness training on Tuesday and follow up with a little fitness on Thursday followed by working on the weekend's game plan. We've played against players in other teams 50 yrs old so you're never too old to give it a crack!

Rugby League is a simpler game than Rugby Union and it won't take you long to get to grips with the rules by training and watching a few games. If you want to turn up to training for a chat with the coach and see if it's for you, it's Newton le Willows Sports Club, 7.00pm Tue/Thur!
