Evening all,

I'm trying to help with organisation for a stag do to the Grand National and thought the pistonheads community near Liverpool might be able to give me a hand.

I need to find accommodation in Liverpool for 19 blokes over the Friday and Saturday nights (13th and 14th April 2012) and it's proving tricky, I've tried a few of the apartments, but most seem too small.
Does anyone know of anywhere? Do the Universitys offer any type of accommodation we could book? Are there any hostel type places that we could book the whole dorm etc?

Trying to keep the budget down, hopefully around £50 a head, were all in our 30's so not everyone needs a bed, I'm sure a few won't mind kipping on the floor if we find somewhere large enough.

If anyone knows of any places or if anyone has any pointers that would be great,

Thanks.

Good luck, I can't offer any help, but you are picking the busiest weekend of the year for hotels and other accommodation in Liverpool. You'll also find booking everything else that weekend quite difficult for 19 people - restaurants, activities etc. Lots of large repeat corporate bookings for pretty much everything that weekend.

You could try staying in Birkenhead - not a nice place to stay but only a train journey to Aintree and there's a nightbus that travels through the Tunnel all night to get you home after the nights out in Liverpool city centre.

I always find booking hotels in Liverpool a nightmare for footy games. Could maybe stay in Chester, quick direct train to see the racing then back to Chester for the night out?

Thanks Guys,

Checked Liverpool one, and a few others. Yup, bad choice of weekend, sadly part of the group had gone ahead and booked their own accommodation, so we were stuck with central Liverpool.

Still we have managed to find the Atlantic Corner and they seem to be able to put us up, it looks interesting from the outside, but lets not judge a book by it's cover!

Thanks for the reminder about everything else JQ, hadn't thought about restaurants etc, more stuff to be getting on with now.

You wont really find many places to accommodate that many and its grand national weekend so everywhere will already be booked.

The Dock Road is a complete sthole

It's about 5 miles from anywhere (except scrapyards) Although, strangely, the Elude restaurant is down the road and very good.

Have you tried the stag doo favourite, Formule 1?

Thanks guys,

Sadly we have been forced into this, the best man started this about 5 months ago and all seemed well, or we all thought everything was in control. On Friday he dropped a mail to everyone saying he had sorted out the stag and five of his (best man's) mates and all others should all book their own accommodation.
So I am trying to sort out the resulting mess, 19 other guys all left out in the cold, and relatively (given the grand national weekend) at the last minute.

I'm not too worried about the distance to Aintree, there are enough of us to arrange a bus etc and the other group are on Duke street, so this is as close as we can get to the others. Pain in the bum!

And yeah, I had a look at the google streetmap of the place, seems interesting!! Still, we should fill the place.

Thanks Craigjm, I do think we need to stay near to the others in Duke street, hopefully the best man will manage to arrange transport for all from Liverpool, otherwise you can guess the title of my next post!

Cheers for the help and pointers folks.

Getting around is easy as there is a good train network that stops right outside aintree and goes direct into the town centre. Not so easy to get to the dock road but if you change at liverpool central and take the southport train it will get you to Sandhills and you can walk from there.

Havent been back to Liverpool for a while but remember it being very busy national weekend.

Lets just say he's not doing too well at the moment and a phrase involving "chocolate teapot" has been bounded around!

Lad in the office said he stayed there for a stag do about 2 years ago and the people that run it are friendly.

He's a fairly local lad and knew what he was booking but it was pretty much all that was available.

Group of 19 of you will be absolutely fine, I'm sure.

Where are you all from?

Check out Stayliverpool, also look for apartments on Henry Street and Seel Street, the two streets on either side of duke street.

Failing that I live in a 2 bed flat on Duke Street which i'll gladly rent you for the £450 mentioned laugh

The reviews on TripAdvisor of The Atlantic Tower look fine to me. And it's almost next to the Liver Building - it's hardly a poor locations ! I'd not be worried about the location or the place.
