Info for anyone that uses the services shortcut by the hotels: I went through today and noticed large signs saying "Permanent Barrier Enforcement from 14thJune"

Was the first I`d heard of it but google threw up a couple of relevant links:

If any "plod" are reading, then can they please answer this question:-

Why can't we use the services as an exit?

In this age of caring for the environment etc, surely it's enviromently friendly for people living in the Chorley/Coppul/Ecclestone areas to come off at the services rather than coming off at either Leyland or Standish and causing more congestion & pollution?

I've heard this is down to some local councilor who 'has recieved many complaints from those living nearby'. Namely; his own family wink . A bit like unrealisticaly low speed limits, you can often tell where councilors live.

As I understand it, part of the agreement the services operators have with the Highways Agency is that they have to operate controlled access to and from services from the non-motorway network. I.e. they will only allow staff, deliveries etc to access the services from non-motorway roads. The reason for this is that the services private access and adjacent roads wont have been assessed/designed for the amount of regular traffic that would arrise if it were open to all. The access is unlikely have been designed to meet the standards required if it were to become a normal junction to the motorway network.

As the services are private land, it is not a Police issue, hence why the police don't bother when people do use the exit.

Whether this particular services causes a local problem I don't know, but if the locals are complaining, the Highways Agency will have to put pressure on the services to get the controlled access reinstated.

Is there still a Motel on the Services?

In the seventies this was my preferred route from Preston to Park Hall and I understood then that because of the need to provide access to and from the Motel from both sides of the motorway the access gates were left open.

I vaguely remember a time when a barrier was installed with a microphone and speaker system but mention of the Motel and you were through.

Happy days!

Do they have no entry signs on the sections they are talking about?

I can't remember as it's been a good few years since I've been in to those services.

the police may not care about the use but what about going the wrong way when seeing a no entry sign?
