I currently commute across the M62, M602 and into Salford. Its about 35 miles and not too bad a drive, though I find its so much better after junction 11 east bound.

I'm not really clued up on where to live, but here's what I'm after.

  • 2-3 bed semi in an area where my car won't get paint stripped overnight
  • I prefer a small suburia / village to a big city, the closer the better but up to a 25 mile drive is ok.
  • I have a car but a nearby train station wouldn't hurt, I'm also prepare to drive a moderate distance to tesco.
  • No kids etc. so schools not important.
  • A choice of pubs, fish and chip shops or post office would be nice but not essential.
I was thinking, Birchwood near Warrington is decent - nice enough area, cheap and close to junction 11. Who knows though!!

Buying, 130k. I'm not fussed on the house though, 2 bedroom is big enough, just dont want it in teh ghetto.

Something boring like this is fine, cheap and cheerful, thats me.

Birchwood is OK on the whole, there are plenty of council and housing association properties in the vicinity so try not to get too close to them , although it's by no means rough compared to most council estates.

There's loads of other places around Birchwood all pretty much of a muchness , Oakwood , Gorse Covert , Locking Stumps and slightly further , Padgate

Irlam is also worth considering , not sure if your budget would get you something on a modern development though , there is a lot of new property recently completed there and still some on going building. Irlam is close to the M60 , linking to the 602 but the only drawback is it take 15-20mins to travel from Makro to the Motorway ( about 2 miles ) during rush hour , this is the bottleneck , A57 the only way in and out of Irlam

Excellent feedback thanks, keep it coming.

One observation I have made is the M60 slip roads that join on the 62 or M602 get VERY busy, I would REALLY like to avoid those.

Good to know.

Are there any places to go out socially? Be it a weatherspoons or just a pub?

Might be a stretch on your budget but stockton heath near warrington.Good comute thru lymm, then carrington into manchester.About 15 miles or so. Good train links in warrington. Stockton heath is a smallish village with plenty of pubs and places to eat.Very nice area. Plenty of flats just outside the village along wilderspool causway, large morrisons within walking distance, sainsburys, asda and tesco all in warrington. Thurs, fri, sat village very lively.

Good shout but too expensive, nice place otherwise!!

I think I'll look at google maps for small villages then cross reference with rightmove to see whats available!

How about Newton-le-Willows? Has some nice areas and has it's own train station. Not sure on the nearest stop to Salford. Otherwise you've got easy access to the M62.
Couple of decent pubs. I'd recommend the Oak Tree on the end of the high street.

Not sure about Warrington, but I've heard some bad things about Newton-le-Williows?

Or Lowton. Right on the East Lancs which gives another option into Salford. Nice pubs, good amenities etc.

I'd avoid Earlestown, but the 'old' part of Newton-le-Willows is fine. Lived there for a couple of years and never had a problem.

Culcheth . Well regarded area , on the whole quite expensive although you should get something crop in within your price range. I have heard there are 5 newly built properties almost ready for release , rumours are they will be circa £160k not sure whether this price was set before market became so static. M62 Jn 11 is not too far away and also near enough to the A580.

If you need any further info on Lowton feel free to ask here or via PM

Have you considered some of the nicer areas closer to Salford , Urmston , Stretford even some parts of Eccles are OK
