Everywhere you go these days has rough parts close by. Even ''nicer'' places might have imbeciles living there who will be your neighbours

Oh and as a side point, if your mate thinks Stockport might be ''rough'' and wants to live in a leafy suburb, he needs more than 110 grand!

As a proud local (cough...) Stockport is one of Britain's top 50 stty cities/towns.
Personally with a budget of £110k I would look a bit further down the A6 to get better value.

I've been in Stockport for just over a year now. Bought a house for just shy of 110k (with a driveway, sort of) in Cale Green. Was in Levenshulme before and where I am now is a lot nicer (with houses being slightly cheaper). Friendly neighbours, good pubs, very easy to get to manchester. It has some less than nice areas where you really wouldn't want to live but where doesn't? Just avoid the places with rotting cars in overgrown gardens. Oh wait, that's my house...

Stockport is a fairly awful town end of, Yes there are nice places, Bramhall, Heaton Moor, Wilmslow etc but you'll struggle to get a decent house with a driveway for 110k you Might get one up Brinny, Adswood, But if you drive through these places you'll know why.

Hazel Grove will probably be the best out of a bad bunch but again you'll struggle for 110k.

Still having said that there are worse towns, but a lot that are better.

Further out you go, the cheaper and nicer it gets.
I'd follow the train track out of Stuckport and look there - Disley, New Mills, Chinley, Furness - are all (I'm guessing) under 30 mins away via train, probably quicker.
Driveway parking and even a garage are possible in budget, certainly in New Mills.

We used to live in Woodsmoor before moving to Plymouth, that was a reasonably nice area but again, can be a bit pricey!

For £110K?rofl

Plenty of areas nearby where that sort of money will get you a decent house and driveway....Northenden,Ashton-under-lyne, Reddish, Denton. For example: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

I'd avoid Disley, New Mills, Chinley etc unless you are into wife swapping or fancy becoming an alcoholic.

Now't wrong with Stockport, great motorway access, plenty of shops, nice countryside less than twenty minutes away, ten minutes into Manchester....there's plenty worst places in the North West.

Stockport town centre needs a major revamp..... however great train link to Manchester city centre.

Best thing about Stockport is the A6 out of it!.
110k ain`t going to buy much in Stockport(or anywhere near) let alone something with a driveway.
Tell him to go onto the right move site and have a look, if he could stretch to 120 then he`s got a lot more choice.

As others have said, Rockport itself is a dump, but there are nice areas to the south. You'll need more than 110k for a house with driveway though.
110k will get a nice flat in Davenport or similar.

Seriously, if he is working 9-5, a house somewhere along the train routes is the answer. That A6 is not nice.
And Disley/New Mills is way better value, greener, safer and friendlier people than nearer Manchester (IMHO), alcoholics and wifeswappers or not biggrin

Anything in Marple/bridge in the o/p's price range or is it bit on the too priceyside.. Has the train service i think and easy access to M/Cr and countryside.
