I had a wee accident this morning in the Indy. I have no idea how it happened, as I wasn't going remotely fast. I was on my way to work to redo the interior ironically, and as I came on to the slip road (downhill) off the big roundabout after filling the car up, the back end just went. Caught it one way, then the front wheel passenger side went onto the verge and after that I was a bit of a passenger, managed to have time in that weird slow mo that happens when its gone pete tong, to see if there was anything coming down the slip road while it was sliding sideways and get it round enough so the back corner (as you can see) took the impact rather than the front suspension. I was doing less than 30 when it first lost grip, as it had chucked it down and was still spitting. I am fine - though i am pissed off and f@cking glad nowt was coming behind me! Hit the barrier quite slowly and it span me round the right way so I could get onto the verge out of the way on the inside.

Clearly my fault although I have no idea what set it off. I have been round there hundreds of times much quicker in both cars - perhaps the downpour onto dry tarmac brought all the oil etc to the surface and I was just unlucky.

Chassis seems fine but obviously I will get it checked. Managed to drive it home fine.

Anyone know how much a new tub and 2 wheel arches are frown

TWAT.

It sounds like you may have fallen prey to the phantom diesel on the roundabout just befor a slip road trick. The same thing happened to me several years ago. I couldn't for the life of me work out what just happened, then I heard the unmistakable sound of a motorcycle hitting the deck on a diesely roundabout. It's a bh when it happens and there's pretty much naff all anyone can do about it. I hope you get the car sorted and there were no lasting injuries for which you can claim off the council via a no win no fee lawyer or anything (hint hint).woohoo

Arggghhhh. Annoying.
Im guessing its the rain after a sunny spell makes for slippery roads etc.

Could you catch a lift on the 31st?

Gutted for you matey. Don't know what else to say, other than at least you're ok, and I suppose you could have come off a lot worse than you did.

Christ Hobzy, glad you're ok. What's the plan now? I'm sure if you need a hand getting it back on the road some of us can come in handy (Although I'm useless aside from making everyone cuppa's & ordering pizza)

Can Haggys dad's place help mend it? frown

yes I've never worked on a kit car before but I can chuck some tools in the VX and pile round to help out.

On a repair front, are the wheelarches and tub bonded on the R1 then? scratchchin
My dad had a reversing incident in his Seven, but you can just unbolt the arch and replace.

Just out of interest,as you mentioned you had just filled up,I assume your filler cap is secure and that you haven't got an errant breather on the tank somewhere?

Funny you should mention that as when I took the back off I noticed that the breather was a bit loose where it screwed into the tank. No sign of leakage though.

Late seeing this topic.

Bad times Hobz. How is everything at the moment. If I wasn't on holiday, I would have been right over.

It's amazing how slippery these cars are in the damp/ wet. Any chance to kick that back end.

I'm at Le Mans from this Wednesday till the following Monday. (I have a spare ticket if it happens.....??)

If it still needs doing after that then drop me a line. I'll come running with the beers.

Also, if you want to see what the engine looks like, we could take it out while we're at it. It's on my list of expertise now.
