Mrs!

Thinking of looking at a 306 Rallye as my 'new' daily driver to keep the miles down on the Tiv (and hence some £s in the pocket; forgot what money looks like as it disappears so damned quickly!) and I'm hoping to see one in Leicester later this week.

But although I'm familiar with the 205 having owned them a looonnngg time ago (Christ, over 21years for the first one) I know nothing of the 306 GTi-6 or Rallye other than what I've read.

Anyone nice and local to the East Dorset/Hants border got one that I could have a sniff over in the next few days, maybe?

Prob too far east for you in Portsmouth but drop me a PM if you can't find one closer.

Also try 306 GTi & Rallye owners club

Thanks Don't call me Andy(?).

Pompey is a little too far for me to get to, as I'm busy today and hoping to travel up tomorrow AM.

Just had a quick shufti at your profile; very nice pics. Admire anyone who can dolow light/flash pics that well. I must get myself some preper flash/lighting equipment....although then I'll have to blame my lack of ability on something other than not having the right equipment!

BTW nice to see a self confessed TOG on here. I'm not that brave...

Unfortunately, I don't have a 6 for you to give the once over, but I have had two 6's in the past - a lot of fun for little money.

If I was to offer one snippet of 306 advice, it would be that you should be prepared to walk away if the engine sounds at all 'tappety'. Chances are the cambelt has failed at some point and it can be big bucks to fix properly.

As posted above, there are some good 306 forums worthy of a visit - I found 306GTi6.com very useful in times of need.

Happy hunting..smile

Thanks for the advice. Joined 306 forum - that's where I found the car I'm going to look at. Cam belt just changed, seller has good rep, but I'll listen out for any tappety noise.

I had a Y-plate 306 for about 2years previously. Not a bad car, but at about 84k the power steering rack and pump went, which was not cheap to repair. Worth looking at the engine undertray for any signs of fluid which was the early indication when mine went.

Other than that not a lot to worry about.

What about the CAT? Brake caliper? Basic feeling of dissatisfaction that owning a french diesel brings?
