Do you mean by the Christchurch/Hurn junction?
I know they cleared it on the other side, I guessed it was for electricity pylons as they followed a straight line...

no, it's about football pitch size, next to the 338, north of Avon Causeway

Isn't that forestry commission land? If so, they're probably just harvesting some trees.
