Portsmouth Speed Crack Down?
Discussion
Driving into Portsmouth, on my way to Gunwharf last Saturday (29th) night at around 8pm.
As you drive in, you come off the 50 MPH roadworks, into a 60, then that slows into a 50 as you go up and round to the right before coming into a 40 that then has a roundabout at the end of it.
Saw someone pulled over in the 2nd 50 limit. Then round the corner was a Scamera van in the middle of the lanes facing on comers. (Think I got caught. 6 points at 20. Not going well).
Then at the roundabout were two police men on bikes, ready to catch any ones who slip the net I guess. Also a further police car and van circling before I reached Gunwharf.
Then on way out, roughly 1am ish. Police had pulled people for checks into a lay by, next to 30mph fixed speed camera as you leave Gunwharf.
All in all, there were a lot of police about and what seemed to be a speed crack down op going on.
Now was it just because it was Saturday night? Or is Portsmouth having a no tolerance policy?
I know Portsmouth want to have all the 30MPH limits reduced to 20MPH by a few years time.

They do a lot of ANPR checks for untaxed/ uninsured/ known-to-be-a-bit-iffy vehicles and drivers in Portsmouth - I see the van several days a month.
I think the Movano they use for these, usually accompanied by numerous motorcycle BIBs, is ANPR only and does not tread on the toes of the fixed and mobile cameras also dotted throughout the city.

Its a regular haunt and i remember being pulled over years ago there!
As soon as they finish the roadworks in Cosham, they will put a van there as well to catch you coming southbound just by McDs. So i am told! Wink wink!
Also watch out for the camera van in the roadworks that has been there this week!
