Burnemouth Spur Road ...
Discussion
blame the government, if the roads were not congested you wouldnt sit in traffic jams!...no..hang on...the government in this case and a lot of others HAVE caused the congestion! do you think it would work if we started charging them per min for when we sit in traffic which is caused by them?

Avon causeway is open now though, you could cut down from Ringwood and accross there which would avoid Matchams lane.....
Absolutely ...
Mind you what the hell did they do for a few months on the Causeway, fine they did the bridge, put in completely unnecessary pinch points, the road surface is also still hurrendous!
Cowboys!

Agree with that ... still don't know why they didn't sort out the road width while they were at it.

one very small plus point: imagine how much mayhem it would cause if the work was done in the summer not looking forward to returning to work when my ankle mends! (...thinking of last year when the northbound side was being PATCHED up!)

The length of the closure period for what is the main arterial route in/out of the Bournemouth & Poole area is nothing short of disgraceful.
Without dwelling too long on the stage managed escapades of the Top Gear team, a properly supported Road Razer can tear up a carriageway at around walking pace. Likewise the Rollers, Paver and Chip Spreader can also operate at a similar pace.
So - with that in mind, and given the essential nature of the route, can anyone explain why it is estimated to take six weeks to replace less than a mile of dual carriageway?? My father spent the best years of his life working for a company which manufactured the road building machinery listed above, and he can't comprehend it either...

some of the groundworkers (R&W ltd) on our bournemouth site often did a days work there and then went up for atleast 1/2 a night shift on the north M3 works recently.... why are there no night shift works on the A338????? when i drive north up the 338 at 630am there's no one on it and same on my return at 1830.... screw the bournemouth residents that pay for the works, but bend over backward for the tourists....
looks like this is the man in charge (sourced dorsetforyou.com www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=16637):
Philip Nelson 01305 225356
so when is the southbound side going to be relaid (afterall the works are apparently to extend it's 40yr life to 60yrs...)????
why, after the end of the works on the southbound side, is the 40mph speed limit maintained as far as the 50mph town limit at cooper dean, yet there are temporary national speed limit signs as soon as you turn off at blackwater???? ppp

I've learned now that the main reason it's all taken so long is because they've also been replacing drainage pipes along the verge on the northbound section too so in that sense fair enough, but nonetheless this is the primary arterial route into Bournemouth & Poole - a conurbation of some 330,000 people (larger than Southampton). They've been working there today, but in previous weekends it's often been deserted. It really hasn't had as much commitment thrown at it as one would have hoped.
The thing that irritates me is that I don't think Bournemouth council fully appreciate the impact the roadworks are having on local traffic; It's not just that Matchams Lane, the Christchurch/Ringwood Road, and Parley/Ferndown have all been logjammed for weeks; I got stuck in a tailback at the bottom of Gravel Hill at 7:20 on a Monday morning a couple of weeks ago, caused by all the Poole traffic rediverting up through Stapehill.
Regarding Thursdays accident - the photo on the Echo it was easy to spot that the Lorry had a continental numberplate.
Agree re your point about the Southbound section; I don't know when that's being done. Knowing Bournemouth Council I wouldn't be surprised if they schedule that for the May Bank holidays...

stick 4 or 5 gangs on the 3 mile stretch and the drainage/ducts could be in in 2 weeks + another week to finish the surfacing... not 6!
