I am looking to get a car built for motorsport - I'm thinking of starting in Sprints and then moving onto some kind of circuit racing.I have a few ideas about cars but would like to discuss a bit more about what's involved in preparing them and the costs I live in Brighton - does anyone have any ideas of someone within 20 miles of Brighton who would be good to talk to about this?

If you find anyone let me know too.

Im looking for someone local (Portsmouth) who has race car experience who can set up the suspension on my sprint/trackcar* (Honda CRX)

(* More likely "drive way ornament" at the moment!)

Have you spoken to Austec Racing in Crawley?

Apart from being TVR Indies, they also look after a number of race cars and hot rod type things.

They always have a couple of Alfa race prepped cars at the garage whenever Im up there (and witnessed a few race cars on show at the recent Open Day )

Never thought about them. Was thinking of getting the Griff on their rolling road too.

For the CRX I was rather hoping to find some kinda small backstreet local specialist. (ie cheap!).

No, but Ive heard good things of Andy. But as I live not 10 miles from Austec the additional cost of petrol plus time would negate most, if not all, of the saving.

Anyway, its only money

LoL

I also live in Brighton & race a westfield in the 750MC Kit Car series and can thoroughly recommend it. It's a fast series, lots of fun and friendly (most people have built their own cars and have to pay for them on Monday) as well as being low cost. We race at all the good tracks including Branmds, Oulton, Cadwell and Silverstone.

A decent car will cost around 4K and if you race in the Zetec class you usually get something with 300bhp per tonne but with little maintenance needed between races. My engine has done 3 seasons and doesn't need a rebuild!

Check out there website www.750mc.co.uk and drop me an email if you have any questions. there's quite a few potentially good cars for sale at the moment and although it seems early, now is the time to start getting sorted for next year.

I thought sprints would ease me into circuit racing but decided to just go for it and it was the best decision I made.

I used this guy to do some work on my 205 GTI and i know someone else who's cage he'd fitted. I was very happy with his work and he was very good value.

I know of a small company based up near Guildford. Technical Vehicle Solutions (AKA TVS). The bloke who owns it used to do sprints and time trials in a Civic. Really friendly and worth a chat for advice etc.

He can help with most of the electrical side of things as well (he advertises as car security but is good with all aspects of auto electrics).

His ad in on yell.com is here... www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do;jsessionid=eLXVaeyGTwVf?searchType=classic&ooa=on&keywords=&companyName=TVS&location=Guildford&x=0&y=0
