A32/A272 average speed cameras

Looks like it’s going ahead. I also noted they have already installed a noise camera further along the A272 a while ago.

I saw this mentioned on the news last night. Will be interesting to see how many of these average speed cameras are installed how much of the Meon Valley they hope to cover.

My first thoughts were they'll get vandalised being a fairly quiet country location. Second thought, will they be similar to motorway units in which case they will be so high as to be an eyesore but probably too high to get vandalised.
I'm assuming the authorities involved in this decision have taken these things into account.

It will be like the motorway SPECS cameras (same as quite a lot of good roads in Scotland has).

The thing is it’s not speed that has caused residents issues I suspect it’s the excessive noise that those probably visiting loomies brings and the article kind of touches on that. Will a bike sat at 50 not still produce antisocial noise?

As a regular visitor to Loomies on my Vincent Comet then later my Velocette Clubman both bikes at 50 MPH (which seemed fast with an open face helmet) did make a wonderful if not anti-social racket at that speed. But nothing compared to the odd rogue biker doing his Max Biaggi impression which I have witnessed far too many times in my car so it's no wonder locals complained.

You used odd rogue biker then said witnessed far too many times sitting at loomies you can hear bikes coming from miles away. Obviously it’s not every rider with a loud exhaust but I suspect if you worked out the ratios of car owners with an aftermarket exhaust and the ratio of bikers with aftermarket exhausts bikes would win by some miles.

Indeed, I have first hand experience of the odd rogue biker. Many years ago when I had my Phaeton I was coming back through Langrish heading towards Petersfield when all of a sudden at the top of the incline/righthand bend a motorbike flew over my car and hit the car behind. It happened so quickly I didn't have time to react. The biker was just sitting on the pavement somewhat dazed, I did manage to brake and pull over into the farm yard entrance, the VW behind me was well and truly damaged and I said to the biker he was a very lucky boy.
The bike had crossed over the road onto my side of the road, hit the wall, dumped the rider then flew over my car and hit the car following me.
Difficult to say what speed the bike was doing, but I reckon it was too fast and may have been doing a bit of air time hence the loss of control.

There is already a noise camera on the A272. Do they plan to expand that at all? Anyone ever heard of a successful prosecution from it?

This makes me sad my Sunday morning loop includes these roads. Bad enough theve dropped whole sections to 50 for no apparent reason.

Hi, I live and work in the Meon Valley and have a Ducati 749 with a Termignoni, it makes a nice sound without being in your face.
Most of my customers will complain about the noise of bikes at the weekend, they don’t really care about speeding as long as you keep to the speed limits throug the villages, problem is they now associate noise with speed.
The stretch from Mislingford (Sanderson wood yard through to Loomies is a particular problem as the sound of a modern bike with a race exhaust carries for miles, especially early morning 5am onwards when it is deathly silent.
Riders do need to be more considerate of the residents or stricter limits will be introduced. It’s a little like the ridgeway where everyone used to be able to use the green lane with no issues until the 4x4 tiny dick brigade decided that getting stuck and then fking up the lane by using winches and wheel spin was a good laugh. Now everyone is banned.

I guess what sounds nice for you might not sound nice for everyone else. Easiest thing to do is VOSA setup at loomies and just nab any bike with an illegal exhaust.

I agree, but a v twin with a termignoni during the day (10am) onwards is completely different from current bike with a full race system before 9am. If they didn’t have the race cans they would probably get away with it.

Cameras appear to be up on A272 between Petersfield and West Meon Hut.
Two tall yellow poles with two cameras at the top facing both ways.
Went up at the end of last week.
