Wickham Shell Garage

Anybody know what is happening with the Shell Garage at Wickham? I had heard they were changing the tanks but nothing has appeared to change for weeks other than looking like a remnant from the Blitz!

I tried going there a couple of weeks ago. When I saw the fencing surrounding the site I thought maybe they're getting a refurb or whatever but it looked a bit too far gone for that

According to Wickham Parish Council its due to re-open mid December. A quick google search came up with this description of the work.

Proposal: Removal of existing underground fuel tanks, fuel dispensers, above ground fills, vents and forecourt canopy. Installation of new canopy, underground fuel tanks, fuel pipework, dispensers, above ground fills, vents and bin store. Erection of new pitched roof building extension Location: Shell Wickham Fareham Road Wickham.

Agree with Pedro, I saw the old tanks come out, and the new go in.

Works seems to have ground to a halt. I've seen zero activity for 2 weeks now.

I (used) to go there fairly often (I drive an Impreza), I've been going to the other Shell out the back of Fareham on the way to Segensworth. It's pretty annoying that its been closed for so long!

It would be useful if there was a way for Shell to let us know when it will re-open.

According to this it was meant to open again on December 16.

My local Shell was shut for 11 weeks. Just re-opened, but they forgot the Pay and Go codes.

Looks like they have started doing a bit of work on it now though, there were sheet piles being put in the other day.

I was going to comment on this again, for the same reason. Contrary to my previous post, it now looks like they are excavating for the tank work. I deffo saw some tanks arrive at site, so who knows what I actually saw! Sheet piles have gone in, with a huge steel framework around it, and the excavator is digging out the centre of it. I did see a team of 'drainage solution' peeps on site before crimbo, so perhaps that was the delay?

I think most of the delay was due to potentially contaminated ground and then a breached culvert. Will be nice to see it all finished!
