Eastleigh to Crawley - best routes?
Discussion
I have to do a work trip next week, travelling from Eastleigh to Crawley (not Gatwick airport) to arrive by 8.30, leaving at 4.30pm for the return.
Google maps suggests going via M3/A31, then M25 and M23. But my gut feel says there's got to be better routes out there. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I do this route a few times a week and find that depending on the day of the week, the current most reliable route is the boring M3, M25, M23 route.
I do occassionally do the M3, A272, A24 (I think)
On a normal day I would leave at about 6.10am and get there for around 8am. but traffic does build a it if I am much later.
If its a Monday leave an extra 10 minuates.
On the return, if its a Monday to Wednesday I go M23, M25 and M3, but if thursday or Friday I always go A272.
Hope this helps

If it's not too busy, I drove almost the whole length of the A272 the other day and it was enjoyable even with light traffic and not gunning it at all. Just enjoyed some of the cambered corners and occasional switch back. I drove from Winchester across to Haywards Heath. You cod find your way to Crawley from there.

Yes, turn Northwards up the A23 where the A272 dips under it just before Haywards Heath. However the A272 has mostly never moved on from the the days of horses and carts so is certainly scenic but definitely not for anyone who has an appointment to keep (or blood pressure problems). Keep away!James
