Just got back from a 8 day euro trip...was planning to drive the famous balcony roads of south east France & then drive the lower mountain passes & gorges on the south coast.....
Unfortunately we we caught speeding on the N102 south of Clermont Ferrand.....both myself & a friend were caught doing 145kph in a 90 zone & had our licences taken off us & paid a 90euro fine - another friend was doing 135kph & he only had to pay the 90euro fine.....

Now, i've driven in France many a time, in fact i lived in France for some time but i hadn't heard that the laws had been tightened some what....

If you're planning a trip through France this year, try not to get caught over 137kph in a 90 zone or they'll take your licence away....
We were "escorted" to a local police station where we had to leave our cars...we then jumped in the other 2 cars & drove to Geneva (the closest boarder) where we hired a car & went back to collect the cars the next day...

Didn't drive the balcony roads, but headed to Germany & enjoyed the Black Forest (the B500 is a cracking road) the autobahns & the local B roads which were fantastic....so had a good time...

I still do not have my licence & have no idea when i will get it back.....

There have been quite a few threads over tightening up of the law regarding speeding in France, it's not exactly new.

In fairness, 30 mph over the limit would put you at risk of losing your licence in the UK.

Some threads on licenses being taken in France recently. The jist was to apply for another copy from DVLA as lost. As most don't get the confiscated one back.

34 mph over to be more accurate.

More details here:

http://english.controleradar.org/speeding-fines.ph...

To compare: a fine of EUR 90 (== GBP 64) for 110 mph in a 81 mph limit seems remarkably civilised to me.

If only the Brits were so civilised.

GBP 85 for minor speeding offences from 80 to 85 mph in a 70 mph limit
seems to be the going rate recently and that will only get worse as more
and more automated speed cameras are introduced onto Britain's safest roads.

Roll on automated cars. I can't wait.
