I drove up the M3 yesterday afternoon on my way to Bedford for the week and the traffic Southbound was horrendous from one end to the other, standstill in several places and all simply caused by cars broken down on the hard shoulder, no accidents, just the usual rubber necking causing the hold ups, it was unbelievable.

I also hit a large chunk of plastic too, looked like an under tray or something, has put some lovely marks down the side of my car, hopefully they'll buff out! One of those unavoidable situations without causing a pile up!

Yesterday and Saturday would be two days i would not have wanted to travel south on any of the local motorways!

I came home from Weybridge down the M3 yesterday as the HA in their infinite wisdom, decided to shut the southbound A3 at Guildford for roadworks. When we were heading north in the morning, ALL traffic was being diverted through Guildford and there was an 8-10 mile tailback...in that heat! Saw two ambulances tending to some poor people that must've been suffering!!

M3 southbound was fine though!!

I left West End at 1pm to go up to Basingstoke and it was a solid queue southbound from where I got on at J11 all the way past the Winchester Services. It was then pretty much stop/start back to the A303 junction. What was surprising was how busy it was that late in the day. You would have thought the coast traffic would have been earlier and the northbound starting to build. North was very quiet.
We came back A33 through Kings Worthy. Always very quiet and a good fast shlep down from Dummer.
