As he title says, am i mad considering this?

Its just under 100 miles per day, i could possibly do a four day week to help reduce costs, but other wise would be working 7.30 to 5. So still a long day.

How bad does the A3 get?

I would consider moving but have just bought a flat in lymo...

Thanks

You'll have no problems with the A3, it flows well and you'll only be on it for 2 minutes tops. The place you might get held up is on your journey home where the A27 meets the M27. It can get congested there from about 5pm onwards upto the Fareham turn off then flows again after that.

Its been a whilst since I have commuted in that direction but the bits you will almost certainly get stuck at are the M3/M27 junction, M27 J9, M27 J11, M27/M275 interchange and the A27/A3(M) interchange so pretty much anywhere along the route smile

That doesn't allow for accidents (in the winter you are driving towards the low sun for pretty much the whole distance with the inevitable consequences), people being unable to keep their car on the road in the rain, increased traffic to/from the forest in the summer, and a million other things that cause it to grind to a halt on a daily basis...

M27 can be hit and miss at any time of day, leaving Lymington early is good but you may still get caught Eastleigh Airport - Whiteley.
As said, going back in the evening could get sticky around Portsmouth too.

Getting through Brock and Lyndhurst during the summer is going to be awful at times.

Yeah, that.

But if you live here, I assume you already know this, or have you not experienced the joys of summer yet?! It's like we're stuck down here as we can't get out!!

There's loads of demand for flats in Lymington, if you get fed up of commuting, just let it out and rent a flat closer to work.

The Whiteley junction is particularly foul at the moment with 50 limit and roadworks. Generally the M27 going the way you intend is OK, with the other direction being more prone to grinding to a halt.

Takes me around 40 mins to go 30 miles of a326 and m27, if I leave at 7am. More like 30 if I leave at 6!

Yeah, I've lived here nearly 5 years so I know the quicker routes back in.

I'm just in two minds about the whole thing, I've been spoilt with a 1.5 mile 'commute' since I've been here. If I go for it its going to be a shock!

Thanks for the replies

I think you are a bit mental. My boss lives in Lymington and heads to central Southampton daily and that is enough for him.

I live in Hythe and turned down a job in Fareham because of the travel

J5 J7 can get bad either way

J8-J10 roadworks either way with average speed cams is bad at the moment

Normally bad at J9

Can slow down J11-J12 both ways

It's the luck of the draw!

If its a 100k salary and a nice comfy company car, do it. If not, then probably don't. My brother in law does hythe to denmead every day, after two years he is sick to the back teeth of it. And he aint got a company car or 100k salary..
