Hedge End to Lymington in Rush Hour Mon - Fri
Discussion
During peak time you will get stuck from the Hedge End junction to the M3 split. It calms down after 0845ish.
After that junction it should OK as the majority of the traffic will be going towards the M3.
Dont know what its like after you turn off the motorway and head towards the forest though.
Getting out of Hedge End is generally OK, its the motorway thats the problem.

I do Forest > Whiteley in the morning and back in the afternoon and in the morning the traffic is often ground to a halt going the other way as it gets stuck going up the M3. (and also before some of the other junctions further back towards pompey) Its not too bad after that, though the queue onto the M271 is often backed up too.
This is even as early as 7:30, but perhaps it gets better later?

I do it every day. Leave Lymo at 08:15 - 08:20 and get just north of Hedge End for 09:00.
Occasionally the traffic can be bad, but generally I'm not late.
It can be a nightmare getting to Lymo in the evenings in the summer especially a Friday night in Brockenhurst!
I'll be going the other way. (Live West End going to Lymington) So I guess my biggest challenge will be M27 to the M3 split.Occasionally the traffic can be bad, but generally I'm not late.

Thanks for all the replies. Paul.B
Most mornings the A27 past Haskins, White Swan, etc. is stop start for its entire length then you would have to join J5 by going past the Airport and Station which are another bottle neck.
You either have to be on the M27 before 0730 or after 0830(ish) to avoid the worst of it. However if there is a problem on the M3 then all bets are off

I do hedge end to the M3 everyday (go up the M3 though, instead of on to your way). If there is the slightest breath of wind, marginally damp air or a vague fog anywhere between Eastleigh and Birmingham, you're screwed - commuters cannot drive in these types of adverse conditions. Unfortunately, I don't know of another way to get round it, through West End and up to junction 5 would be the better bet, but whichever way you go is carnage.
If you do go on at junction 7, my only advice would be to stay in the inside lane until you hit the 1/2 mile sign to junction 5, most people get straight into the middle lane at J7 and you will easily undertake them all the way to this point, before the queue for J5 starts.
I have done some earlier starts and have seen junction 7 through to the M3 in around 10 minutes at 7 a.m, but much after that and I would suggest a motorbike, helicopter or a patience transplant.

I had forgotten about the gas works. Cheers!
If all goes to plan then yes, I'll be taking this route every day!! (Better than the 104 mile daily round trip to Woodley near Reading)
I am away working offshore at the moment so haven't seen the gas works, but look out for a silver Z4MC from the end of May. If all goes to plan then yes, I'll be taking this route every day!! (Better than the 104 mile daily round trip to Woodley near Reading)

I drive from Fareham to Ringwood every morning. The traffic has got worse and worse to the point that I leave home now at 0750....the good news is I am in my office in Ringwood at 0730. If I left at 0730 it can be 0900 before I get in.
