Convoy to Le Mans (Via Dover) 20th June - South Coast Lot
Discussion
Right all, with about 56 days to go until we depart for Le Mans I thought I would attempt a bit of planning for the South Coast group on the 09:25 Dover - Calais Ferry on Thursday 20th.
As there will be a fair few of us travelling from the same area, who fancys a bit of a convoy to Dover.
From speaking with Jim, we thought a good meeting point would be the BP/McDonalds on the A3 at Petersfield. Gives people a chance to fuel themselves with caffine/breakfast and the cars with fuel before departing. Final meeting time is still to be confirmed. I welcome suggestions on this.
Anyway, if you are keen, join the list below:
1. 7heo, M3Charlie, Jon TVR & J44Y (Range Rover/Land Rover)
2. Stef and Marcel (VXR8)
3. Jim and Neil (535 Mega Diesel)
4. Jamie and Jim (Monaro)
5. Jamie and Matt (996tt)

Well I've done a bit of google mapping. From the services to the ferry port is around 2hrs 10 mins. Ferry is at 09:25 and check in is around 30mins before hand - 08:55. Given it is a week day with potential rush hour traffic could aim to arrive in Dover for around 08:30-0845.
I would think therefore meet at the services at 06:00 for an 06:15 departure. This should allow a bit of time for people to make pit stops en route, not sure how Jamie and Stef will manage MPG wise! Not everyone has the economy of the megadiesel!
How would these plans fit with people. Happy to accept suggestions!

I don't know what you mean? I get 40mpg from my VXR8!I would think therefore meet at the services at 06:00 for an 06:15 departure. This should allow a bit of time for people to make pit stops en route, not sure how Jamie and Stef will manage MPG wise! Not everyone has the economy of the megadiesel!

Well, OK, that's on a cost basis as it runs on LPG. I have about a 220 mile range on gas and a full size petrol tank but will deffo prefer to run on gas where possible, apparently LPG (or GPL as they call it) is very common in France.

Stef, we could meet you at Tesco's just off the A3 at Guildford at 06.40 ?
Give those that need to - a fresh fill up of motion potion.

Excellent, so just to rape Theo's groundwork...Stef
0600 - Petersfield services - A3
06.15 - Leave with a full tank in the angry diesel
0640 - Guildford Services - A3
Google maps shows its '98 miles and 1hr 37mins' from Guildford services to Dover but we will easily crack it in under 90mins giving us a rough arrival time at the ferry of 08.10 - giving us a nice buffer.
Good plan Stan.
