Something I've never had to do before. Have heard horror stories about it being really difficult because of the gases involved.
Does anyone know of any firms or similar who collect and dispose of them? Or does anyone want an old (very old) freezer? It actually still works!

Cheers

Put it outside, with a 'For Sale £20' sign on it. It'll soon vanish.

If it's anywhere like our area, it'll disappear in under an hour by a 'rag & bone' man in a white pickup/transit

Take it to the tip council civic amenities site or if it's too big, call the council and they'll collect it.

Phone the council, leave it outside and they come and collect it in a few days.

Works for Havant Borough anyway.

Cheers all,

I think I remember seeing a John Bishop stand up routine about trying to take a fridge to the tip....it put me off trying! That and being exceptionally lazy at house related stuff.

I did consider leaving it outside, but round where I live I don't think it would move. It's not posh, it's just nothing ever goes on round there!

I'll probably ring council. Hi Mark dot byebye

Council will charge you for it. Chuck it in the Estate and take it to the tip.

Is it actually broken, if it still works, then Freecycle it and someone will come and collect it.

When I first read the thread title I read it as 'Getting rid of an old Geezer' I thought, he may be an old dog, but still, no way to treat Steve_D! wink

If it still works I'd go for Gumtree or eBay with a "Collection Only" stipulation.

I did it with my old (non-working fridge) but said it was for parts. Got a few quid for it. Better than paying the council!

I recently cleared out and took down an old shed. I had an old broken freezer in there. It was rusted and had holes all over.I put it on the end of the drive meaning to put it in the car to take to the tip. I took the dog for a walk and it had gone by the time I had returned...not sure why anyone would want it, but it went.

I live on a quiet private estate so was very surprised. Give it a try!

I'd be lying if I said I paid for it!
