Summer 2013: I know this might seem premature (especially as we haven't even had a Summer in 2012 yet!) but thinking of next year......

Every summer a number of seaside resorts hold ‘free’ car shows - the idea being to entertain tourists and thereby encourage both tourists and participants to spend money in the local economy. Poole, in Dorset, runs a weekly themed car show named Quay For My Car. (Q4MC)
Throughout the summer, every Friday, the Quay in Poole Harbour is closed to traffic. It is an attractive location – opposite Sunseeker Yachts (where they are currently constructing Eddie Jordan’s superyacht!) with a busy waterfront and an excellent selection of bars and restaurants. As a tourist destination, there are obviously plenty of hotels in the Poole/Bournemouth area.
Poole Tourist Information (pooletourism.com) organises and run the event. As it is funded through sponsorship so there is NO charge for participants or spectators!

This year the themes have been:
4th May - Open Tops/Convertibles
11th May - Beetles & Combis (T1 & T2 only)
18th May - Porsches
25th May - 4x4s/Classic Landrovers
1st June - Open Tops/Convertibles
8th June - Mini Magic
15th June - Best of British (pre August 1983)
22nd June - Lotus 7/Caterham
29th June - Audi TTs
6th July - Open Tops/Convertibles
13th July - Beetles/Combis (T1 & T2 only)
20th July - Porsches
27th July - TVRs
3rd August - Open Tops/Convertibles
10th August - Mini Magic
17th August - Best of British (pre August 1983)
24th August - American Dreams
31st August - Sassy Smarts

If you are a fellow Italian Car enthusiast I think you would agree that there is a very obvious gap in their schedule!
I approached Anne Simpson, who is the Special Events Manager for Poole Tourism, to ask whether it might be possible to add a date next year for Italian Cars. She is very enthusiastic about the success of Q4MC and advised me that if there was a free date and sufficient interest it might be possible to inaugurate the very first ‘Italian Stallions’ themed Quay For My Car!

How can you help initiate the event?
I understand that in the past the Ford Capri Club held an event but out of the minimum 50 cars needed to make a date viable managed to attract only 3!

If sufficient numbers of Italian car enthusiasts register our interest and enthusiasm by e-mailing / writing then Poole Tourism will be willing to consider adding the event to next year’s calendar. Therefore please could you e-mail Poole Tourism at the address below. The more enthusiasts who register an interest the better! At this stage the event is only a possibility and obviously there is no commitment to attend just as there is no implied commitment for Poole Tourism to offer it.

Please could you register an interest by e-mailing a.simpson@pooletourism.com
stating that you would be a possible participant in an 'Italian Stallions' themed Quay For My Car in 2013

For ease you may Copy / Paste the following:
Title line - 'Italian Stallions' themed Quay For My Car in 2013
Message:
I / we would be most interested in participating in an 'Italian Stallions' themed Quay For My Car in 2013. I could bring my ………

Yours truly,

Footnote:
The TVR boys here at Pistonheads successfully initiated a TVR night. Can us Italian car fans do likewise? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Remember this can only happen if WE initiate it. So if you are interested please register your potential interest.

It's a bit racist calling it 'Italian Stallion' what about 'Italian Bulls' ?
I suppose it depends on whether you are a Ferrari or a Lamborghini fan? I'm an Alfa fan myself - but 'Italian Serpent devouring a human being' night just doesn't have the same ring!

Hooray!!!!!
Just had the following e-mail from Poole Tourism

"Just to let you know that I have set aside Friday 30 August 2013 for the Italian Stallion night. I hope that suits, and look forward to seeing you all there. Please do not arrive before 6.00pm as the Quay is a no parking zone until then, so we have nowhere to put vehicles, and I know it causes frustration having to be moved on.

For those of you that may not know, the event runs from 6 .00 – 9.00pm and we park on a first come first serve basis - I think we can accommodate about 100 vehicles."

So make a note in your 2013 diary........ Friday 30th August 2013 Italian Stallions - Poole Quay!

Quay for my car - on Poole Quay
http://www.pooletourism.com/go.php?structureID=pag...

The event starts at 6pm & ends at 9pm. Entry is free but limited to 120 cars.
From the website: IMPORTANT INFORMATION (on car night): Vehicles are requested not to arrive before 6pm as the road is not closed until this time and there is no parking available; also please avoid waiting up the high street as this causes traffic congestion.

Well you probably would be allowed in if you replaced the "Volvo" badges with some saying "Volvini"

I simply replaced the badges from my Austin Maxi with ones from a Alfa Romeo & look at the result!
