Royal Oak, Bishopstone - this Sunday
Discussion
Hi
I received an eamil from the Wilts TVRCC leaders relating to an event at the above venue this Sunday. I know there's loads of other stuff going on on Sunday but is anyone going or has anyone been before? Any comments on it?
Email read as follows:
"17th April 2011, 14:00: Drive it Day at the Royal Oak in Bishopstone nr Swindon, J15 M4). http://www.royaloakbishopstone.co.uk/ We have popped over to this relaxed event in both of the last two years. The premise is pretty simple - dust off the car after its winter slumber, drive over to a country pub and indulge in a pint. The pub also serves great (organic) food and an organic burger/bacon buttie van is also situated in the car park.
Last year the event attracted over 150 cars. For me the highlights were a beautiful Auto Union, Messerschmitt micro car and Ro80, however there is plenty of sportier stuff around as well, such as the usual porsches, MGs, Lotus', Alfas etc. My friends have also reported Astons and Ferraris although I've never seen these myself. I dare say that people with more car knowledge than I will pick out some real rarities to admire.
What I really like about the event is the relaxed atmosphere with people just dropping in and out for an hour or two. There is also a big difference in the standard of the cars on display from rusty piles which have been loved and driven to cherished and well polished examples."
