Right chaps,

How shameful is this? As my best man (brother) is living the high life in Canada for a ski season and hasn't bothered pulling out his finger yet I'm looking into sorting out my stag with a few of the lads who will be coming. I'm currently in Plymouth and the budgets just aren't going to stretch to a fly away and I'd rather not have one than go out in Plymouth or Newquay, that leaves Bristol or Cardiff with Bristol being the favoured option?

Anyone got any suggestions/ideas that are worth a look there? The plan is a Friday evening arrival curry/pub getting everyone together etc, Saturday afternoon some manly activities involving driving or shooting followed most likely by the usual stag routine for the evening of booze and boobies.

Are there any interesting accomodation options? Say renting something for a night or two rather than a hotel?

Help a groom in need!

Bristol Stag Do:

Hotel suggestions would be somewhere like the ibis at Millenium Square ("@ Bristol") which is happy with stag parties and is also fairly cheap and cheerful. It is within a couple of minutes walk of the city centre and most of the clubs and bars.

You could look into the Bristol Beer Cellar (an Austrian themed bar with an ooompa band and beer in steines!) or Bristol Lanes is another popular option. You should also definitely try and fit in a trip to the 'Cori Tap' (Coronation Tap) in Clifton, a cider bar that is notorious for its cider - I've been many times and only remember leaving once... Maybe combine the Tap with a few in the Avon Gorge Hotel, always nice on a sunny day over looking the bridge.

There is also a couple of nice bars on the waterfront but it depends what you are after really and how 'stag do' you want the stag do to be if you get what I mean!!

I'm sure others will chip in some thoughts too smile

ETA - There is a great clay ground at Swindon, Barbury Castle which is c.30-40 minutes drive and I'm sure Huw up there would organise something for a stag party smile

For daytime activities try Max Events

Accommodation try Ibis at either temple meads or waterfront.

Drinks at Hooters on waterfront.

Curry try Kathmandu or Old India

Boobies google search for "Lounge at 30" (Not that I have been).

Another place for daytime stuff is Skirmish Bristol
They're based just outside of Bristol and offer things like Paintball, Laser Combat, Clay Shooting, Rage Buggies and Quad bikes.

+1 for Curry at Old India it is fantastic.

Drink at Hooters may be a problem they can be funny about people not ordering food.

The clubs in Bristol are quite rubbish so you maye be better off up White Ladies road in some decent bars. Zero Degrees is great for lots of random beers and as above the Corrie Tap is fantastic. The 5 pint challenge is notorious, they only serve it in half pints it's that strong.

raj tandoori is probably the best curry place in the centre. its next to the old vic theatre and you have the old duke across the road which always has live jazz on fi/sat nights. you also have "renatos" on the same road, a legendary italian place, stays open very late and has a good atmosphere.

loads of activities in the area, karts, guns, etc etc

sat night you have two choices, take on the carnage that is the city centre (aka the waterfront) or stay on whiteladies/park street.

the waterfront has loads of bars and clubs but the patrons are knuckle draggers and the clubs dont make it worth your while. its simply a place where morons go to breed/fight/fight and breed... i just wouldnt bother.

personally i would start at the bottom of park street and work your way up to clifton via whiteladies road, loads of good bars and one or two clubs at the top but most of the bars are open past 12. I have done a round of pub golf in the area taking in some real gems such as "The Clifton", "The White Bear/Avon Gorge Hotel", "The Mall" and "The Penny Farthing". If its nice, have lunch at the Avon Gorge Hotel overlooking the Gorge and the suspension bridge is nice and you can book a big table outside. If its cack, then head for "The Albion", which is also very nice and relaxed.

I guess it depends on the ages of the group and whether getting absolutely smashed in a grotty nightclub is a key priority.

some ideas here: http://www.justclifton.co.uk/nightlife

sunday morning has to be R&R at the Lido www.lidobristol.com or "The Hill" which does great pizza and has big comfy chairs....

Hooters is utter s**t, yes they have clevage, but you see a lot more just walking around the pubs in the evening and you dont have to pay for the over priced beer or eat the stuff they serve as food either....

Thanks for all the advice chaps, shall all be looked into, I'm not into your typical swearing/fighting/vomming type stuff so a pub crawl of some of the nicer places sounds good. I'm also a massive curry and cider fiend and I'm hearing Bristol should be rather good for both instead of the beer.

I think we'd give Hooters a miss and look for some better "entertainment" later in the evening, can this be achieved without recieving the knuckledragger stereotype? hehe

Cardiff isnt a bad shout, stay in travelodge right next to walkabout.

Saturday nights are full of stag and hen doos which makes for a laugh, also there are 3 weatherspoons which is nice for a burger and beer every half hour or so!

Also the go karting place in Cardiff is pretty decent, the endurance event is good.

Failing that the Beer kellar in Bristol is a right laugh.

Bier Keller is Bristol is a fantastic night on a Saturday and probably nothing like anything you have experienced before. Certainly was new to me.

I had my stag do in Bristol, but all I can remember is being tied to a tree on the downs with a traffic cone on my head and wearing only boxers!

Don't go to the strip bar (forget the name now) but it's quite a grand building with really tall ceilings- very much what you'd expect a 'gentleman's club' to be likehehe

I got called a 'Letchy old wker, with no money' because I took too long to decide.rolleyes

Half is true. Scrub that, all of it is truehehe

As far as I can tell one is called 30 League and the other is The Chambers or something.

Not that I've looked or anything. hehe

Best thing you can do in Bristol is take your passports and jump on a Sleazyjet to, Krakow, Prague or Riga!!

You'd easily lose the 70 return fair on beers in Bristol.

Lots say that but the idea of going to eastern europe just does not appeal to me at all in anyway and I still think it'll turn out more expensive there, most of the lads on the trip are running up from Plymouth.

Maybe I can tempt youhehe

There is a strip bar under M&S in Wenceslas Sq, Prague. You pay £10 on the door, get 10 free beers & watch some really good 'shows'. The girls are mostly Russian & smoking hot.

If you go down by the river, or even catch a river cruise through the day, that's nice. There is also a really good Karting circuit just outside the Capital. There's no marshalling, and can get quite 'heated' throughout the sessions.

Go to Mish Mash. The only club i've ever been to that has a sign over the door that says, No Knives, No Guns & No Machine Guns rofl We felt safe in that knowledge!!

There's also a pretty good Irish Bar, and 3 storey night club (Opposite M&S) in the Square.

Plenty of Ladies of the night, if you're into that sort of thing hehe

By the way, my mates ended up arguing with some Gypsie wes because they were too expensive! Turned out the £80 they were charging, was actually £8 for the whole night in the morning once they sobered up!

Crazy place!

My brother has it all organised for next weekend, Friday and Saturday night in Bristol with paint balling on Saturday afternoon. Beyond that I'm completely in the dark as to wear we might end up.

I've made only two requests:

1. No removal of hair (wedding pictures)
2. I'd like to remember as much of the night as possible (particularly any 'live entertainment')

Roll on next weekend.

Don't go to Old India, we (the PH curryers) went there at Christmas. It was cold (the building, not the food), the service was bloody dreaful (had to keep reminding them that we wanted to order a drink), and the food was ages coming and very second rate. Go somewhere else.
