Hi all smile me and several of my mates have decided to give outdoor karting a go as we have only done inside before. Mainly at M4 karting, Hullavington. Can anyone sugest a decent place?? Around the Cirencester/Chipenham area smile cheers!

If your looking for Arrive and Drive type places, you're better off staying indoors, try Avonmouth-theyve just got a new fleet of karts. If you want to go abit futhur afield, Thruxton or Daytona Milton Keynes?
Castle Combe is basically an indoor size track built in a car park, and the karts are OLD! Best track in the SW is probably Clay Pigeon in Dorset, but dont think theres any kinda arrive and drive type stuff there, unless your doin the Club100 thing :S

Hope that helps

As said above, Avonmouth is indoors but a decent enough track for an arrive-'n'-drive session.

Castle Combe is a small track - Hullavington, Cheddar and Wroughton are much better (but indoors)

I went to Hullavington last year, its pretty good there, the Karts are good and its got a good mix of fast and slower sections. Havnt tried Cheddar yet tho.. I definately wouldnt bother with Castle Combe, never been too impressed with any of their courses either tbh. Another good indoor track is Supakart in Newport, tho the karts were a little ropey last time I went. Good size track tho! smile

What are they like? Are the prices still the same for A&D?

my step dad used to run mansell raceway in dunkswell, its gone downhill lately though, not worth the price for arrive and drive

if your in wales, llandow in wales has a good arive and drive set up. they will tailor make packages for you. nigel that works there is a great and knowlagable man running a little shop

I think teyve got Biz karts, capable of about 40mph if you had enough room, similar to what theyve got a Hullavington I'd imagine. Im going this Sunday for an event, so I'll let you know how it goes!

If you want a decent outdoors track and don't mind a bit of a trip, St Eval near Newquay in Cornwall is very good and not too expensive either.

Well worth the trip from Plymouth, not sure from where you are though!!

I'll be turning right for a hundred laps tomorrow at the West Country Karting track. I've been warned to not hold much hope. frown

Speedway Karting in weston is a great track, all the karts are evenly matched (which can't be said for the split level one accross the road where the difference between the fastest and slowest karts is 4 seconds a lap...) Also for arrive and drive they're doing half price so that means for 45 mins karting you only pay £15 all through March according to their website, I think its because they're tucked away on Europark so trying to get extra business in lol, anyway heres the link: http://www.speedwaykartingcentre.co.uk/half-price-...

This. One of my friends had his rear wheel fall off at lap 98... wobble

Avonmouth (Bristol Raceway) has always been reasonable for indoors karting - not hugely expensive with generally reliable karts. New management recently, with new karts as said.

'Clay Pigeon' is supposed to be good for outdoor, although expensive compared to indoor. It is in Dorset though.

Cheddar (Phsyco Racing) is good for mini-motos, although I've not karted there.

I dunno if its just that Ive been a regular at Avonmouth for so long, but that Speedway karting place looks pretty tat. I havnt been there so I cant really say too much, but you know when you just look at the place. Remember, cheap doesnt equal good. Same goes for the one in Cheddar...Its abit different having a building with a permanent split-level circuit and one where it doubles up as an indoor market during the week :S

Clay is a great track, although I've never raced their karts.

Similar-ish distance away is Whilton Mill, another awesome track, but again, I've only raced Club100 there.

cant fault avonmouth to be honest, been there loads of times and never had a problem.
www.swindonkarting.co.uk is pretty good, its in wroughton, i havent been there for a few years but it was well set up last time i went.

Clay is great, outdoor karting is just a million miles away from indoor stuff but everyone is taking it far more serious. they prokarts they have there are the ususal twin engined 2x160cc engined karts but are fast enough and as clay has its own weather system.....

Ok, so went to Avonmouth lastnight, the new karts are ace! Times are still down abit of the old karts due to the new ones being supplied with the hardest of hard tyres, and the track looked like it needed abit of rubbering in. But whilst it was pretty slippy, it was nice driving karts that werent banged up, everything lined up etc and the best thing about them was the pickup of the throttle, you could moderate it pretty well meaning you could adjust a slide with the trhottle, and also meant that when you put your foot down, they got their move on, unlike some old ropey karts you see where there is a significant gap between putting your foot down and the engine picking up.

Sorry to go on, If you want my advice, get down there sharpish before the corporate types do too much damage!
