Dog walking places.

Tog Hill, on the A420, near the junction with the A46?
I walked my dogs from Bath on the Cotswold Way a few years ago. The path goes straight through woods behind the car park at the Bath junction of the M4. I'm not easily shocked, but walking through woods and being approached and crudely propositioned by a series of naked men was seriously shocking.
I'm always extremely careful when driving past the entrance to the Tog Hill car park at night, which is only a couple of miles form my house, because it is very common to find people apparently anxious to get out of there as quickly as possible.

Hello All.
As title suggests I'm looking for some places to take my dogs too.
Not too far from Swindon, 2hrs ish. Looking for somewhere I can let them off
for a good run and would like to have a good cafe or similar nearby.
Head up through Wroughton or Chiseldon to Barbury Castle, there is a cafe at the top and the Ridgeway crosses there so miles of open countrysideAs title suggests I'm looking for some places to take my dogs too.

If you want beach we normally head down to Brean or WSM
On a serious note, we had a nice walk the other day into Avebury. See map here:

The route is the track that heads North then turns 90deg right. You can park up near the top of the track, a few yards from the A4 (although technically it says not suitable for motors). It's about an easy hour into Avebury where there is, of course, a pub

As miniman says, the Marlborough Downs are a good place. Best to get hold of Ordnance Survey 1:50000 scale no. 173 (Swindon and Devizes), then you can see the footpaths, public rights of way etc. If you centre it on Avebury then there is the Red Lion to avail yourself of.As title suggests I'm looking for some places to take my dogs too.

I sometimes took my dogs to Coate Water as well. You don't need to confine yourself to the Park area, you can also walk south over the M4 to Chiseldon if you feel so inclined.
Just one caveat - both of these suggestions are also on cycle routes so, if your dogs have a negative thing about cyclists, you might want to go somewhere else
The water park at South Cerney's not bad, if your dog's a swimmer. Minchinhampton, as mentioned above is pretty good, but there are horses and cattle loose. Cleeve Hill, just north of Cheltenham is great, but ours was bitten by an Adder there last March. Crickley Hill country park, at Birdlip on the A417 is ok, but there's a charge for parking, which takes the edge off it a bit. I think it's to stop the other kind of dogging.
Bredon Hill, from Ashton under Hill, is very nice, but a bit steep for my OH! The Malverns are all good - a particular favourite is from Castlemorton Common over towards Eastnor Castle. Anybody else remember 1992 at Castlemorton?
There's also some fantastic walks in the Forest of Dean. The AA do some little pocket sized books called 50 walks in wherever. We've got Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds one.
You could try some of these, too http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Cotswold/text.asp?P... The Cranham one is great.

If you find any good ones near Cheltenham, let me know! We've got into a bit of a rut, and can always use some new ideas.
We're fans of Ashleworth and surrounding villages, hardly ever a soul about, and quite often empty fields on the footpaths. Especially round by the river opposite the Red Lion. That's where our Sloe Gin sloes come from too. Gassing Station | South West | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
