Afternoon all,

Im Ben from zsoc, one of the organisers from the meet we also held on Sunday.

Happy bits before the bad:

- Looked like you guys had a fantastic meet with a huge array of very expensive and well looked after cars many of use dream of owning. You caused quite a stir in the fiesta owners!!

- Thankyou for being understanding about the gorge booking etc and being so helpful in heading off slightly earlier than planned to accommodate us.

Now the bad bits....

Cheddar Gorge have decided to put an end to any and all meetings/rallies of clubs within the Gorge. This has come from a number of factors: None of these are aimed at anyone and are merely what I have been told by Longleat estate, the owners of the land and gorge, and Cheddar Police.

- A number of cars were stopped for exceeding the 20mph limit in the Gorge by a police bike and given cautions. I know of 2 receiving tickets and fines for doing so next to the car parks themselves.

- 100kg or rubbish was removed from the gorge car parks on the evening of the 27th.

- Many cars were loud to an extent where the noise can actually damage the caves and cause annoyance to many locals.

- Gorge staff are not in a great enough number to control what goes on. Especially without prior notification as the Gorge is deemed a public use area but it is not public space.

So its a shame its come down to this after 2 such successful meets but Cheddar Gorge have decided to end any and all meets for clubs and enthusiasts for the foreseeable future.

Not aimed at anyone as ive said exactly the same to the Pug forum and ZSOC as well smile

Cheers for a close up look at some cars I will never own!

Ben

This is a massive shame as we've had some cracking meets there. But it is also completely understandable.

Most of us simply enjoy the ride there and back and admiring the cars on show - its great to chat to like-minded people who take real pride in their wheels.

To all Phers - if you know of a great meeting place that can hold between 20- 200 cars at time please say, so that we can all carry on enjoying the prides of joy we own.

Im down to Cheddar tomorrow to speak to the gorge and Longleat estate just to see how the ground lies with the exact club names etc and to see if we can broker a deal about using the gorge along the lines of being pre-arranged like zsoc did this year.

Hoping they feel better about that etc

Sad day if the meets end.
Tis the first time i've known it to be a 20mph zone , next time im down there i will look out for the signs .
On a side note to the limit , i did notice and hear a rude cyclist tell a passer by who was crossing the road "You will need to be quicker than that next time " as he sped past at easily over 20 mph .....bet he didn't get a ticket .........

Out of interest Ben, what was the setup with "your lot" (and by that I mean lots of Ford hehe ).

I've heard mention of ZSOC and FastFord but can't see mention of Cheddar on either site :S.

Really? Theres 15 threads of organisation on Zsoc and at least 10 picture threads. Fast ford dont have any posts on it as that was behind the scenes smile
