Does anyone know of a garage in the Westbury (Wilts) area which can read Citroen diagnositic/fault codes?

Not sure where she got it done, but she'd had it checked and it seems to say it's a turbo issue...she's not a happy bunny

Turbo issue? What engine size is it? If it’s a 1.6HDI (90 or 110BHP) that could be the start of a very serious problem. I'm coming across lots of 1.6HDI turbo failures at the moment. However, in many cases if you fit a new turbo it will fail within a few hundred miles due to excessive carbon build up inside the engine. Many turbo companies are now rejecting warranty claims for turbos on these engines. Sorry to be the bearer of potential bad news, but I think she may be best advised to get shot of it before it ends up needing a new engine. That said, this only applies to the 1.6HDI. The 2.0HDI doesn't suffer with the same issue.

Did she buy it from a dealer ?

If not I would suggest the seller knew it was buggered & sold it on. Do you know what she paid for it ? If it was cheap i'd get the fault light cleared and shove it into an auction at Bridgwater.

If it was a dealer, there is a 6 month responsibility implied for all used car sales. The dealer has a duty to their customers.

If she wants to keep it, and it was a private purchase then i'd be looking for a specialist like Citrotec
http://www.citrotec.co.uk/

I can vouch for these guys, they are very good & cheaper than the dealer. My local bristol dealership sales staff (that drive their own citroens) use them rather than the dealer they work in.

Good luck

She given the car from her stepfather, it cost him around 4k. She's not had much luck with cars in the past so was hoping to keep this one.

She's had the code read, was told that there was more than 1 fault code on the system, 1 of them being a turbo issue. The guy has cleared the computer thingy/box of tricks (I don't know whats it's called) so that if/when it happens again it should be a clear reading as to what the current fault it. If it is the turbo I think she's gonna have to try and sell it on quick as there is no way she can afford to start replacing turbos etc

I agree. A friend of mine has just had one of these cars in for repairs thinking it was turbo failure. He took the sump off too just as a precaution to check for filings etc.. He said the pick up on the oil pump was the worst he'd ever seen and couldnt believe any oil was even getting through due to the amount of gunk covering it. Seems the oil is prone to gunging up (i dont know if citroen are recommending a different grade of oil at service to try to overcome the problem??). Very regular servicing would seem a short term solution to a long term problem.....
