Hi Folks, just wondering if anyone has any ideas for things to see, roads to drive, tracks to visit etc. between Oct 11th and Oct 17th in the south west. I'm visiting from Ireland with my girlfriend (from Dorset but not motor-minded!) and was hoping to soak in a bit of British motoring culture. I was prepared to head as far as Brands Hatch for the BTCC but I miss out by a day or two:-( We plan on tootling around a bit so if that means we accidently happen across a good drivers road, racetrack, museum all the better;-)

Cheers folks

Haynes International Motor Museum, Sparkford (near Yeovil) - big and varied collection

B3081 from Shaftesbury to Cranborne.

B3157 from Weymouth to Bridport

And here's a good route on good roads:

thanks V8S,

I had the Haynes Museum on my list alright - but thanks for the info re: roads. If you see an Irish '07 registered black Golk mk5 making headway on those very roads next week it could very well be me.

I hope you have a good time here. Whereabouts is your girlfriend from?

Her father and family live in around the Bridport area I believe. They all moved originally from London though many years ago.

Dartmoor. Just, don't hit the sheep that'll be lying in the middle of the road...

Beaulieu isn't a million miles away. You should be there in under 2 hours from Bridport.

I would also agree with the coast road from Bridport down to Abbotsbury. On a clear day the view is pretty special and the road is good fun as well, well, it was before they turned into a 50 all the way down through.

If you were heading for Brands Hatch, Brooklands would do instead - and not as far.

On a side note, if you want another day out in the area the fleet air arm museum is pretty good.
They have an early Concorde in there which is worth a look around.

Thanks for the info folks - Beaulieu and Brooklandsesque places with good roads in between is pretty much what I was looking for. I'll let you know how I get on. If anyone finds themselves in the southwest of Ireland at any stage, drop me a line and I'll do my best to let you know what's happening and what roads to get you there.

@Lordgrover - unfortunately I'll miss thatfrown

Thanks again
