Haynes Sunday Meet - Pics and Videos
Discussion
Thought it best to start a separate thread for pics and videos from this meet. I have two videos uploading to youtube from the keyfob camera I had taped to the top of my dashboard for this. Obviously "some" photos may wish to be kept off this site but I leave it to others to discuss this before posting. I have no pics apart from inside the museum which I won't bother posting here.

Here is my first video. no.2 is uploading now, but it features "glimpses" of one of today's victims, so I might not post the link. Would appreciate the owner's opinion on this before doing so.

Hi all,
I did a little recording of just some of you on the track. Sorry I did not get you all.
Video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkIxdzrdEEA
I did record those that appear in the video for almost the full length they were out but cut it short for video. If you want a copy of your own video, let me know!
(Sorry about quality of video. It was taken on my iPhone!)

Bit of a thread resurrection folks but I thought that some of you that attended and witnessed my little incident would be interested in some updates on the repairs to my Phoenix.
Repaired (but not pretty) front (all wheels facing the same direction and turning freely).
And a video of me driving the recently and very hastily repaired car around Brands Hatch on 28 November.
I had stripped the car ready for repair and then took to The Classic Car Workshop in Sussex (my brother's garage), arriving with the car on a trailer, with no front suspension and the engine in the boot of my 4x4. I arrived on Wednesday 24th November with the track day at Brands Hatch booked for Sunday 28th!
The chassis was cut to enable the straightening to take place which was carried out using brute force, a hydraulic press and some ingenuity. We got the majority of the chassis straight but there was a twist with the near side being about 50mm higher than the off side. To straighten this without using any heat that may have weakened the steel, we threaded a large piece of timber through the chassis (approx 300mm square and 2.5m long) with a length of I section steel beam (RSJ) braced against the floor to stop the car from lifting. A 4 poster ramp with a car on top was then lowered on to the timber, twisting the chassis back straight. I was actually surprised just how well such a method worked!
A new length of steel was welded in to the top beam of the chassis on the near side and the rest of the joints were checked and re-welded where required, done by my brother, bless him!! While he was doing that, I was pressing new bushes in to the replacement wishbones I'd got from Jeremy Philips of Sylva Autokits and straightening the top link of the near side shock mount.
I then took the best part of a day to put it all back together and get it running and stopping, completed by about 5 o'clock on Saturday evening!
Then it was just a matter of repairing the bonnet which was, at that time, held together with tape. First, I cut off the bump which housed the air filter. This was done for two reasons, firstly because it made it easier to place the bonnet flat and keep its shape to facilitate repairs, secondly because I didn't really like the look of it anyway!!!
The top of the near side wing was ground down and repaired with some fibreglass matting and resin. As the temperature was below freezing, we had to use a hot air gun to try and get the resin to go off. Once this had gone hard and the bonnet was stiff enough to hold its shape, the same process was used on the inside of the bonnet around the same area as this was the most seriously damaged and other patches throughout the inside of the bonnet and around the front section. Needless to say, there was no time to finish the sections with a fine filler let alone paint.
Lastly was the front subframe onto which the bonnet was mounted and hinged. Unfortunately, by now it was nearly 10pm and I really needed a pint so we drilled holes in the bonnet, welded two large bolts vertically to the top front tube of the chassis and roughly cut some sheet aluminium to use as large washers, all held down with large 19mm ny-lock nuts . . . . JOB DONE!
As you can see from the photos, no lights yet as I'm going to change the old round ones for something else, but not sure what yet, probably twin headlights. The fibreglass work will be all done by April (ish) next year, maybe not with lights yet and certainly without paint (due to the cost). Most likely that the car will only be used for track days next year so meets may have to be attended in the diseasel 4x4!!
Hope this is of interest to you, watch this space for future updates!
