Hi all,

can anyone suggest a hotel in Cornwall where I can take mrs AA for a bit of luxury and romance?

The Falmouth Hotel is pretty good, but only the top tarrif rooms, same goes with The Queens in Penzance and the Porthminster Hotel or Tregenna Castle in St Ives.

You might be better off with a cottage/apartment. There are some great luxury holiday cottages around Cornwall and not too expensive off-season. Some even offer a chef service I believe.

If you decide to go for a cottage, I'll come down to cook and serve a nice meal for you if you're stuck for the cost of ingredients and travel. (If my curry doesn't ruin your night, nothing will!)

Pretty unique - the house in the sea, in Newquay. Mrs GG took me there for my birthday couple of years back.

They only let one room - basically you get the whole floor. Very pleasant.

Can't seem to manage posting a link on this bloody phone, so google "House in the sea Newquay". Obviously Mrs GG will be able to give you full info as she dealt with Lord whatever-his-name is that owns it. (Lady whatever-her-name cooks your breakfast!)

The only other place I would stay in Newquay is the headland hotel.

Gentleman,

we have a winner!

That house is eally good, and I know it well (it used to be in my wifes family), but Newquay is a dive, no decent places to eat, many very drunken stag parties roaming the streets, no good pubs etc.

I always used to go there to surf, but have been so put off by the general Blackpoolesque tackiness that I surf elsewhere, even though the breaks in Newquay are good.

Thanks to all, cheers Gav

Hi AA

How odd, its probably because I posted from a train!

I said, its a nice house, which back in the 1920's used to be in my wifes family. The downside is Newquay, its a dive, full of drunken stag parties, no good places to eat and no good pubs. I used to surf there alot, but have moved on to nicer places despite the beaches at Newquay being lovely.

The house is spectacular in terms of its position, but please dont expect Newquay itself to be romantic, unless your style of romance is a quickie in a bus shelter/pub toilet etc

The exact definition of romantic surely. There's something about the smell of stale urine!

Padstow is nice especially out of season, some great beaches and cliff top walks particularly west of Newquay, Crackington Haven is nice as is the walk down to a very secluded but pebbly beach called the Strangles (may be a bit far west though)
