Having read some reviews on here about local PHer JDs I decided to give him a call about sorting out my X-type.

Following phone chats an an initial assessment of the car a few weeks ago, Darren and Paul arrived at 8am and unloaded a truck load of kit. Luckily the boss of the firm I sub for (he's a PHer too) allowed us to use one of the company units to keep the car out of the forecast wind and rain.

Why go through with this on an 8yr old X-type? Because I felt it could look an awful lot better and having it done properly will make life easier looking after it. Oh and it's my first Jag and I love it smile Paul and Darren both came across initially as very pleasant, knowledgeable and with not the merest hint of bullst or superiority.

So, here are the pics, it may take a while to load...

Dull finish...

It's snowing smile

Blowing all the water out of the billion traps!

Looks kinda okay.

Now let me do you with a clay bar, clay bar, clay bar!

It was now that we could see the car has been loving stroked in the past by Edward Scissorhands.

They tried test patches to see what sort of plan the paint correction would need. This was followed with a very good explanation and discussion regarding what course of action to take and the costs involved. Paul will not up-sell stupidly or do anything outrageous. Where the car lives, it's age and overall condition were just some of the things we talked about before agreeing on what would be best for the car and suit my pocket.

From here on four treatments were undertaken, the results are fabulous.

No it's not a dodgy finish on the wheel arch, it's the reflection of the car park!

And back at home, the debadged rear is so much tidier.

Paul and Darren worked from 8am to 5pm. They were more than happy to teach/explain each stage and share a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I'm picky who I recommend on websites. No question here though.

And yes I do keep looking out of the window at it and smiling biggrin

Looks very nice indeed and a great recommendation so I've had a look at the site. Can I ask the obvious? What menu did you go for and what was the rough all up cost (do tell to mind my own business if you wish!) OJ

Aha, now here's the thing. It was very much tailored but included Glare. I'll ask JDs which menu options we ended up with. I'll PM you with the price.

Why not just post the price? It would be interesting to know what this kind of work costs, typically - well, I'd be interested, anyway! wink

Oh okay then - £350 for mine thanks to some dodgy respray work on the bonnet which Paul treated using elements witchcraft and the tears of baby deer biggrin

I took it to show mother, who reacted by staring with mouth open before uttering "Is it the same car? That's incredible" smile

Looks great, I keep thinking about getting Paul and Darren to do my ZT but it is in a hell of a state and it only cost me a grand so I can't quite bring myself to spend a third of the price of the car... I had a go myself with limited success - its better but has a lot of fairly deep scratches and I daren't go too hard on it with the polisher.

Looks fantastic, nice one.
I hope you have purchased the appropriate products to keep it in that condition now ?

Be interesting to hear which products they recommended for your car.

I use clay, cleanser & waxes on mine

Yes you should, but not to industrial estates. Inudstrial estate anorakism can be a worrying condition if left untreated. Was your 500 there recently for tints? We see lots of cars come and go...

Yes it was. I've had an X5 done behind the B pillar , as was a Freelander and the 500 was done all round but with a lighter smoke.

I'm glad you like the results, it was a pleasure working for you. The look of the car certainly changed during the course of the day

OJ - You have mail.

The costs vary quite a bit depending on the car and what the customer wants to achieve. It's possible to spend a couple of hundred pounds, but it's also possible to spend a couple of thousand. Typically, I would guess that most detailers charge on average in the range of £ 300 - £ 600. If you'd like more specific information, then just drop me a PM.

Thanks for the email. Impressive and nice quote. Distance is an issue at present but not for too much longer. I'm sure I'll be in touch at some point. Good luck. OJ

That seems a very good price for all the work and final result (as long as it will last). I wouldn't spend that on my little 13yr old Fiesta but for a car of value (monetry or sentimental) it's definitely worth it.

No problem. Hope to hear from you when you have made the move - good luck with that.

Because of the type of sealant used and the way it was applied, the shine should last 12 months or more (assuming it is valeted correctly, which knowing the owner, I have no doubts it will).

Excellent work that man...
I've been trying to get back into detailing, but I could never do it as a profession..... so top work and keep it up.

Cheers for that and good luck getting back in the game. Doing it as a profession certainly has its challenges but we do love our work.
